This Granite Club is looking for a full-time Controller who will be responsible for overseeing the financial operations and internal controls of the club, including two direct reports and eight indirect within the accounts receivable, accounting and accounts payable teams.This role ensures accurate financial reporting, compliance with financial regulations and efficient financial management to support the club's strategic goals. This position requires a hands-on solid communicator with technological, analytical and management skills.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Establish high financial standards and implement an environment of continual improvements for internal controls, accuracy and more efficient, automated accounting procedures.
  • Review and maintain accounting policies and procedures and recommend changes to comply with legislation.
  • Establish a strong internal control environment to minimize risk.
  • Oversee the production of periodic financial reports; ensures that the reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles, APSE.
  • Coordinate and review the annual budget and quarterly forecasts; reports significant budget differences to management.
  • Works with external auditors and provides needed information for the annual and pension audit. Coordinate annual operational audits.
  • Ensures compliance with local, provincial, and federal government requirements.
  • Coordinating and preparing internal and external financial statements
  • Assessing current accounting operations, offering recommendations for improvement and implementing new processes
  • Developing and monitoring financial performance metrics for all operations
  • of the accounting team with dynamic leadership that creates an environment of trust and productivity.
  • Hire, train and retain skilled staff. Oversee training programs and identify training needs of staff.
  • Review and approve all monthly reconciliations.
  • Review all Club level and departmental reports and coordinate the presentations for the Board and Committees.
  • Manage the Club’s cash flow, working with the bank, ensuring surplus funds are invested appropriately and borrowings are minimized, if any.
  • Implement reporting as required to hold Operations accountable to their budgets and targets.
  • Oversee pension regulatory reporting, including tax compliance.
  • Oversee capital reporting and maintain 10-year forecast of Capital expenditures.
  • Develop and monitor business performance metrics
  • Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • CPA designation required with knowledge of accounting standards for private enterprises (ASPE)
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, finance or related discipline
  • High level of computer literacy in accounting and business intelligence
  • SQL ability desirable
  • 5+ years of experience with accounting management in multi-faceted operation
  • Strong working knowledge of detailed financial data analysis
  • Working knowledge of federal, provincial and local tax compliance regulations and reporting
  • Excellent analytical, organizational and communication skills.
  • Self-motivated and self-directed
