Controller-CPA

Job Description : Position Overview

Reporting directly to the VP of Finance (or CFO), the Controller will oversee all aspects of the company’s financial reporting, budgeting, project accounting, and compliance. The ideal candidate has experience in the construction or real estate development sector, excels at managing teams, and is confident working in a fast-paced, project-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead all accounting and finance operations, including general ledger, AR / AP, payroll, job costing, and month-end / year-end close
• Oversee preparation of financial statements in accordance with ASPE or IFRS
• Collaborate with project managers to ensure accurate project budgets, forecasts, and cost tracking
• Develop and maintain internal controls and financial policies
• Manage cash flow, working capital, and banking relationships
• Prepare and present financial reports to senior leadership
• Liaise with external auditors, tax advisors, and government agencies as needed
• Mentor and lead a small finance team (e.g. project accountants, payroll, AP / AR clerks)
• Assist with strategic planning, financial modeling, and business case analysis

Qualifications

CPA designation (CPA, CA, CGA, or CMA) is required

7+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership / controller role

Industry experience in construction, real estate development, or related project-based industries

Strong knowledge of job costing, WIP reporting, and construction accounting practices

Proficient with accounting software (e.g., Sage 300 CRE, Viewpoint, or similar ERP systems)

Excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, and business acumen

Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to influence at all levels
