Job description

The Vitullo Development Group is a dynamic and entrepreneurial company involved in construction, real estate development, and property management. The company manages a large portfolio of properties and extensive land for new home developments. Their portfolio includes a significant amount of commercial and industrial space, with numerous tenants. The company is known for its close-knit, small team environment that fosters growth and collaboration.

Position: Controller

The Controller will be the primary finance professional for the team, responsible for accounting, banking, and mortgage assistance. This is a newly created role with growth potential and an opportunity to be part of the expanding executive team.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Manage all accounting operations including billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger, and counsel.
  2. Coordinate and oversee the preparation of budgets and financial forecasts, reporting variances.
  3. Oversee payroll processes ensuring timely and accurate payments.
  4. Prepare and publish monthly financial statements.
  5. Coordinate regulatory reporting and ensure compliance.
  6. Research technical accounting issues for compliance.
  7. Support month-end and year-end closing processes.
  8. Maintain quality control over financial transactions and reporting.
  9. Manage compliance with government reporting requirements and tax filings.
  10. Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to strengthen internal controls.
  11. Oversee cash flow management and rent collection.
  12. Assist with financial planning and analysis for new home development projects.
  13. Manage financial aspects of property management, including tenant billing and lease administration.
  14. Coordinate with land development team for accurate financial reporting and budgeting.
  15. Handle mortgage-related financial tasks, including discussions with bank representatives.
  16. Provide financial insights and strategic recommendations for property management and development.
  17. Ensure compliance with industry-specific regulations.
  18. Collaborate with sales and marketing teams on financial planning for new home sales.
  19. Monitor and report on property management financial performance.
  20. Review legal documents to understand financial reporting requirements.
  21. Maintain communication with property, asset, and billing managers for informed accounting decisions.
  22. Ensure accurate financial reporting for real estate projects, including capital expenditures and receivables.
  23. Lead and coordinate all accounting functions for the property management group.
  24. Support the financial health of real estate projects to ensure profitability and returns.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related; Master's preferred.
  • CPA qualification is an asset.
  • Experience with ERP/accounting systems like New Star is a plus.
  • Several years of property accounting and management experience.
  • Strong communication skills for interaction with bank representatives and handling financial tasks.
  • Proficiency in financial reporting and regulatory compliance.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Organized, capable of managing multiple responsibilities in a small team.
  • Positive attitude and adaptability to challenges.
