Position: Controller
The Controller will be the primary finance professional for the team, responsible for accounting, banking, and mortgage assistance. This is a newly created role with growth potential and an opportunity to be part of the expanding executive team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage all accounting operations including billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger, and counsel.
- Coordinate and oversee the preparation of budgets and financial forecasts, reporting variances.
- Oversee payroll processes ensuring timely and accurate payments.
- Prepare and publish monthly financial statements.
- Coordinate regulatory reporting and ensure compliance.
- Research technical accounting issues for compliance.
- Support month-end and year-end closing processes.
- Maintain quality control over financial transactions and reporting.
- Manage compliance with government reporting requirements and tax filings.
- Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to strengthen internal controls.
- Oversee cash flow management and rent collection.
- Assist with financial planning and analysis for new home development projects.
- Manage financial aspects of property management, including tenant billing and lease administration.
- Coordinate with land development team for accurate financial reporting and budgeting.
- Handle mortgage-related financial tasks, including discussions with bank representatives.
- Provide financial insights and strategic recommendations for property management and development.
- Ensure compliance with industry-specific regulations.
- Collaborate with sales and marketing teams on financial planning for new home sales.
- Monitor and report on property management financial performance.
- Review legal documents to understand financial reporting requirements.
- Maintain communication with property, asset, and billing managers for informed accounting decisions.
- Ensure accurate financial reporting for real estate projects, including capital expenditures and receivables.
- Lead and coordinate all accounting functions for the property management group.
- Support the financial health of real estate projects to ensure profitability and returns.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related; Master's preferred.
- CPA qualification is an asset.
- Experience with ERP/accounting systems like New Star is a plus.
- Several years of property accounting and management experience.
- Strong communication skills for interaction with bank representatives and handling financial tasks.
- Proficiency in financial reporting and regulatory compliance.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Organized, capable of managing multiple responsibilities in a small team.
- Positive attitude and adaptability to challenges.
