About the Role

We are seeking a skilledControllerto join our finance team on a permanent basis. This position offers a hands-on opportunity to oversee daily accounting operations, support financial reporting, and drive process improvements. Ideal for a technically proficient professional looking to develop leadership experience, this role plays a key part in maintaining accuracy and efficiency within our financial operations.

Key Responsibilities
Accounting Operations and Month-End Close
  • Coordinate month-end close processes, ensuring accurate and timely reporting within 7-10 days.
  • Perform general ledger reconciliations, accruals, and necessary adjustments.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly financial statements for leadership review.
Accounts Payable and Receivable
  • Oversee AP and AR functions, ensuring compliance and accuracy in workflows.
  • Review vendor invoices, payment approvals, and cash application processes.
  • Identify and implement process optimizations to enhance efficiency.
Payroll and Taxation Support
  • Assist with payroll processes, including payroll entries, benefit reconciliations, and reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with GST/PST remittances and year-end tax filings (T4).
Financial Analysis and Reporting
  • Prepare variance analyses and detailed financial reconciliations.
  • Support budgeting and forecasting with relevant financial data and insights.
  • Monitor KPIs and contribute to financial performance discussions.
Process Improvement and Systems Support
  • Maintain and upgrade general ledger systems, focusing on process enhancements.
  • Automate repetitive tasks and strengthen internal controls.
  • Provide support for expense management systems and related workflows.
Team Collaboration and Support
  • Assist in supervising junior accounting staff and reviewing their work.
  • Collaborate with finance leadership and cross-functional teams to resolve issues.
  • Provide backup for critical accounting tasks during staff absences.
Qualifications
  • CPA designation (or in the final stages of obtaining one).
  • 3–5+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally in mid-sized private enterprises.
  • Proficient in full-cycle accounting, month-end close, and reconciliations.
  • Advanced skills in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to derive actionable insights from financial data.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate across departments.
