Job summary

FundThrough Inc. seeks a hands-on Finance Controller who designs controls, leads a small team, and ensures accurate, timely financial processes as we scale across North America.

You will own internal controls, monthly close, regulatory reporting across US states and Canadian provinces, and cross-border consolidation, partnering with the CFO and senior management.

This remote role offers a CAD base salary of 150k–200k plus stock options and benefits.

Qualifications

• CPA with track record of progressive accounting roles and responsibilities, including 8+ years as Controller, at least 4 years in finance roles at a factoring company or lender.
• Experience leading, coaching and developing a small accounting team, including managing through a team lead.
• Hands-on experience designing, implementing and monitoring internal controls.
• ERP experience with Microsoft Dynamics GP.
• Experience in cross-border Consolidation of Financial Statements.
• Experience preparing/regulatory filings across US states and Canadian provinces is a plus.
• Interest in or experience with a high-growth start-up or tech company.
• Comfort digging into data as well as seeing the bigger picture.
• Strong work ethic to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement internal controls across finance operations with a focus on lending, funding and payments.
• Lead, manage and develop a finance team of four (Team Lead, two Accounting Associates, AP associate).
• Own daily cash release controls ensuring funding, payment and release accuracy and proper documentation.
• Establish ongoing monitoring and testing of control effectiveness, report exceptions and drive remediation.
• Oversee monthly close, deliver management and board reports, and liaise with the audit firm.
• Deliver monthly reporting to investors, lenders and strategic partners; scale reports as processes are standardized.
• Oversee regulatory filings to Federal/State/Provincial authorities, maintain calendar and secure CFO sign-off.
• Manage cash movements in multiple currencies, liquidity planning and FP&A collaboration with CFO.
• Oversee full accounting cycle, cost structure analysis, system/policy improvements, and payroll coordination with People team.

FundThrough funds tens of millions of dollars a week to small businesses waiting on their customers to pay. Every one of those dollars moves through controls our Controller owns. We're looking for a hands-on, controls-minded, resourceful finance leader who takes pride in getting it right every day, and in building the processes and team that keep it that way as we grow.

You will report to a member of our senior management team and have the opportunity to work closely with our Founders.

FundThrough is a leading fintech company accelerating cash flow and enabling growth for small and medium-sized businesses that sell to large customers and wait to get paid. Based in Toronto and operating across North America, FundThrough’s AI-powered invoice funding platform gives B2B businesses fast, customized funding offers to get their invoices paid in a few days – rather than a few months – and get quick access to cash they’ve already earned.

Requirements:

• A CPA with track record of progressive accounting roles and responsibilities, including at 8+ years as a Controller, at least 4 years of which were in finance roles at a factoring company, lender or similar financial organization, ideally in a high-volume, high-value transaction environment (strongly preferred)
• Experience leading, coaching and developing a small accounting team, including managing through a team lead
• Hands-on experience designing, implementing and monitoring internal controls
• ERP experience (we use Microsoft Dynamics GP)
• Experience in preparing cross-border Consolidation of Financial Statements
• Experience preparing or reviewing regulatory filings across multiple US states and Canadian provinces is an asset
• An interest in or experience working with a high-growth start-up, small business or tech company

Responsibilities:

• Design and implement internal controls across finance operations, with a focus on client lending, funding and payment procedures, to ensure processes are efficient, effective and adequately controlled
• Lead, Manage and Develop a finance team of four: Team Lead, two Accounting Associates and an AP associate.
• Own the daily execution of cash release controls the tightest daily control point at FundThrough - ensuring every funding, payment and release is authorized, accurate and documented. Team Lead executes cash release.
• Establish ongoing monitoring and testing of control effectiveness, report exceptions and drive remediation
• Oversee standard monthly closing procedures, lead production of management and board reports (published for Founder review and final approval) and manage the relationship and ongoing communication with the audit firm
• Deliver monthly reporting to investors, lenders and strategic partners, taking over new reports once they have been developed (e.g. by Strategic Finance, the Data team or the CFO) and are repeatable
• Oversee the preparation and filing of regulatory reports to Federal and State/Provincial regulatory agencies (including filings to multiple US states, quarterly StatsCan reporting and information filings), ensuring they are accurate and on time, with filing decisions and final sign-off by the CFO; maintain the regulatory filing calendar so no obligation is missed
• Account for and execute cash movements in different currencies through several banking institutions, maintaining banking relationships and account access; execute daily facility draws and paydowns against the borrowing base; assist with forward-looking liquidity planning and FP&A, which are primarily the CFO’s responsibility, providing input and raising early flags on emerging cash issues
• Oversee the full accounting cycle, analysis of internal cost structure, management of financial systems and policies, lead changes and improvements as the business grows
• Oversee payroll accounting and processing in partnership with the People team, keep ESOP and cap table records (Carta) up to date and reconciled to the financial statements

Location:

This is a remote role. You can be based in Toronto, anywhere else in Canada, or the US.

Salary Range:

For Canada: $150,000-$200,000 CAD base salary and OTE.

These ranges are based on relevant skills, experience, and internal equity.
