Your Contribution to NRSI

NRSI is looking for an experienced Controller to lead our Finance department. Reporting directly to the Managing Director, the Controller will provide financial leadership and oversee the organization’s Canada-wide accounting and financial operations for NRSI. The Controller will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timely completion of financial activities and reporting, both internally and to our ownership group. The Controller will also provide financial insight and support to management and project teams in operational decision-making. The successful candidate will work closely with leadership, project staff, company administration, ownership companies, external auditors, financial institutions, government agencies, and other stakeholders to support the organization’s financial health and continued growth.

The primary duties and responsibilities for this role include:
  • Plan, direct, and coordinate all accounting and financial operations.
  • Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely internal and external financial statements throughout the year and at year-end.
  • Coordinate activities with external auditors, accountants, tax advisors, financial institutions, and government agencies.
  • Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, collections, invoicing, and general ledger activities.
  • Complete/oversee bank, credit card, and other financial reconciliations.
  • Monitor and reconcile tax installments, remittances, and refunds, including GST/HST reporting and remittances.
  • Oversee payroll administration and related financial processes through ADP, including payroll reporting and reconciliations.
  • Develop, monitor, and report on budgets, forecasts, key performance indicators, and other financial metrics to support management decision-making.
  • Prepare financial analysis and provide recommendations to management regarding organizational performance, trends, risks, and opportunities.
  • Support project teams with financial components of projects, including budget management, forecasting, financial analysis, pricing reviews, and analysis of actual versus budgeted performance.
  • Provide financial expertise and support for proposals, business development opportunities, and other strategic initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities to improve and streamline financial processes, including invoicing, expense management, financial reporting, and other accounting functions.
  • Oversee and support the effective use and continued improvement of BQE CORE and other financial systems used by the organization.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain appropriate financial controls, processes, and procedures to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and compliance.
  • Participate in the hiring, onboarding, training, and development of additional accounting staff, when required, to support organizational growth.
  • Maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion when handling sensitive financial, employee, and business information.
  • Perform other related duties and special projects as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in a senior finance or accounting role, preferably within a consulting, professional services, or multi-entity environment.
  • CPA designation is required.
  • Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, reconciliations, and tax compliance.
  • Experience with accounting and financial management systems; experience with BQE CORE is considered an asset.
  • Experience with ADP or other payroll systems is considered an asset.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Experience working with multiple legal entities and/or operations across multiple jurisdictions is considered an asset.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret financial information and provide meaningful insights, financial interpretations, and recommendations to management.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with employees and leaders at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and competing demands.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision while exercising sound judgment and initiative.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong commitment to accuracy and quality.
  • Proactive approach to identifying issues, improving processes, and implementing practical solutions.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships across departments and contribute positively to a collaborative team environment.
  • Demonstrated professionalism, discretion, diplomacy, and tact when dealing with confidential and sensitive information.
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to provide guidance, support, and direct supervision to accounting and administrative staff.
