Job description

Our client, a leading public clean-tech company is seeking a Controller to oversee core accounting operations and support financial leadership during a critical growth phase. Reporting to the CFO, the Controller will lead the day-to-day accounting, compliance, audit, and reporting functions while working cross-functionally with internal stakeholders and external auditors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with IFRS.
  • Manage full-cycle accounting operations including general ledger, AP / AR, payroll, and cost accounting.
  • Oversee the month-end and year-end close process ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
  • Support public company reporting requirements including MD&A and regulatory filings.
  • Coordinate and manage all external audits and reviews with external auditors.
  • Ensure compliance with tax, regulatory, and financial obligations in both Canada and the US.
  • Maintain and improve internal controls, policies, and procedures to ensure a strong financial governance framework.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis initiatives alongside FP&A.
  • Work closely with operations, project teams, and HR to ensure proper cost tracking and payroll accuracy.
  • Assist with implementation and optimization of accounting systems and reporting tools.

Qualifications

  • CPA designation required; Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a Senior Accountant or Controller capacity.
  • Experience in a public company environment and familiarity with IFRS required.
  • Strong understanding of Canadian and US financial compliance, tax, and payroll.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, organization, and communication skills.
  • Experience with cloud-based accounting systems (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, or similar).
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, scale-up environment with hands-on responsibilities.
