Job summary

G&P Welding & Ironworks Ltd in North Bay, Ontario, is seeking a Plant Controller to lead financial operations for manufacturing projects from blueprint to finished product.

You will drive job costing, WIP reporting, budgeting and cash flow, working closely with owners and operations to deliver accurate financial insights and enable strategic decisions.

CPA preferred; experienced manufacturing finance professionals who can mentor and lead will thrive in this leadership role.

Qualifications

• We prefer CPA designation; strong manufacturing or project-based finance experience is key.
• Experience with manufacturing or construction finance and ERP systems is valued.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and excellent analytical, organizational, and communication abilities.

Responsibilities

• Lead full cycle accounting and monthly financial reporting.
• Prepare financial statements and conduct variance analyses.
• Manage budgeting, forecasting and cash flow.
• Perform job costing, WIP reporting and profitability analysis.
• Support estimating and project financial performance.
• Oversee AP/AR and general ledger activities.
• Administer payroll processing bi-weekly and maintain controls.
• Support external reviews and ERP administration.

For over 40 years, G&P Welding & Ironworks Ltd. has been designing and fabricating structural steel products that become part of bridges, commercial buildings, industrial facilities and infrastructure throughout Ontario.

With approximately 50 employees, we are a well-established and financially stable custom steel fabrication company entering an exciting new chapter.

After the retirement of our long-tenured Controller, we are searching for the right person to become a key member of our leadership team.

This isn't a corporate accounting role.

This is a true Plant Controller position where you'll see projects move from blueprint to finished product while providing the financial leadership that helps the business succeed.

What You'll Be Responsible For

As our Controller, you'll lead the financial operations of the business including:

• Full cycle accounting and monthly financial reporting
• Financial statement preparation and analysis
• Budgeting, forecasting and cash flow management
• Job costing, work-in-progress (WIP) reporting and profitability analysis
• Supporting estimating and project financial performance
• Managing Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and General Ledger functions
• Administering bi-weekly management payroll while supporting payroll processes
• Developing and maintaining financial controls
• Supporting annual external financial reviews
• Assisting with ERP administration and process improvement
• Managing and implementing new processes
• Interacting with all employees
• Providing financial advice that supports business growth and operational decision-making

Qualifications

Ideally you will have:

• CPA designation (preferred)
• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or related discipline
• Experience in manufacturing, fabrication, construction or project-based industries
• Strong understanding of:

  • Revenue Recognition
  • Financial Reporting
  • Internal Controls
• Experience with ERP systems (Global Shop Solutions is considered an asset)
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
• Excellent analytical, organizational and communication skills

Candidates with significant practical experience and strong manufacturing financial backgrounds are encouraged to apply, even if they do not hold a CPA designation.

Salary: $100,000 - $120,000, based on experience and qualifications
