Job summary

Kelson Group, a Western Canada leader in purpose-built rental housing, seeks a Controller in Kamloops to lead finance for a large real estate platform. Reporting to the President, you will steer accounting operations, controls, budgeting, and audits while mentoring the team and partnering with operations to enable strategic growth.

The role requires a CPA with 5+ years of leadership in asset-intensive settings.

Qualifications

• A CPA with at least five years of progressive accounting leadership experience, ideally in property management, real estate, construction, or asset-intensive industries.
• Experience leading accounting teams, producing complex financial reporting, managing audits, and building controls.
• Experience with Yardi and advanced Excel skills are highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day accounting and finance operations.
• Ensure accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and regulatory compliance.
• Lead budgeting, audits, and financial planning; mentor the accounting team.

Your New Role

Based in Kamloops and reporting directly to the President, the Controller will provide financial leadership across a large and active real estate platform. This opportunity comes as part of a planned succession following the retirement of a long-tenured Controller, allowing for a comprehensive transition and knowledge transfer before assuming full responsibility for the role.

You will oversee the day-to-day accounting and finance operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, regulatory compliance, budgeting, and audit management. As a member of the senior leadership team, you will lead and mentor the accounting group while partnering closely with operational leaders across the business to support strategic planning, investment decisions, and the continued growth of the organization.

What Sets You Apart

You are a CPA with at least five years of progressive accounting leadership experience, ideally within property management, real estate, construction, or another asset-intensive industry. You have experience leading accounting teams, preparing complex financial reporting, managing audits, and developing financial controls and processes. Experience with Yardi and advanced Excel skills are highly desirable.
