Job summary

Clarke Inc. is seeking a Controller to join the Ravelin Properties Corp team based in Halifax, NS.

The role reports to the Senior Manager of Financial Reporting and oversees accounting, reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and operational accounting for a portfolio of commercial real estate assets. The ideal candidate will hold a CPA designation, have a Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field, and possess 6+ years of accounting experience, including 3+ years in commercial property

Ravelin Properties Corp is a wholly owned subsidiary of Clarke Inc. and listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange. We are excited to partner with Clarke Inc. and Ravelin Properties Corp (Ravelin) in the recruitment of a Controller to join the Ravelin team based in Halifax, NS. Reporting to the Senior Manager of Financial Reporting, the Controller will oversee the accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and operational accounting activities for a portfolio of commercial real estate assets. This role will lead a growing team of Senior Accountants while partnering closely with Property Management, Asset Management, Leasing, Finance, and Executive Leadership.

This position is full-time in-office and is based out of the Bayers Lake office in Halifax, NS.

Key responsibilities include:

• Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting for a portfolio of commercial real estate assets, including property-level financial statements, reconciliations, working papers, and reporting packages.
• Oversee commercial property accounting, including CAM and tenant recoveries, lease accounting, rent rolls, capital expenditures, and year-end settlements.
• Lead annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting, partnering with Property Management, Asset Management, Leasing, and Operations to develop operating and capital budgets.
• Analyze portfolio performance, variances, trends, risks, and opportunities, and support cash flow forecasting, capital planning, and business decision-making.
• Lead, mentor, and develop a growing team of Senior Accountants and accounting professionals.
• Coordinate year-end audit activities and ensure compliance with accounting policies, standards, and applicable tax and regulatory requirements.
• Identify opportunities to strengthen accounting processes, controls, reporting, and systems, including the continued optimization of Yardi.
• Support acquisitions, dispositions, and portfolio growth, including due diligence, post-closing accounting, and integration of newly acquired assets.

The ideal candidate will possess:

• CPA designation.
• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, commerce, or a related discipline.
• 6+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within real estate, including 3+ years of commercial property accounting experience.
• Experience with office, retail, industrial, or mixed-use portfolios, including CAM recoveries, tenant chargebacks, and lease accounting.
• Previous experience leading, mentoring, or supervising accounting staff.
• Strong financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency in Excel.
• A proactive, adaptable, and collaborative approach, with the ability to balance leadership with hands-on execution.
