Job description

Our client, located in Guelph, ON (On-Site), is looking for a skilled and detail-oriented Controller to oversee the financial operations and provide critical insights that will guide the company's financial performance. The Controller will manage the accounting operations of the company, ensuring accurate financial reporting, adherence to regulatory standards, and the development of strong internal controls. The role involves preparing financial statements, managing budgets, and overseeing all accounting processes. You will be a key member of the leadership team, providing strategic financial guidance to drive profitability and support decision-making.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Reporting:

  • Oversee the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with accounting principles and company policies
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory reporting requirements and tax filings
  • Coordinate audits and liaise with external auditors to ensure accurate and timely reporting

Budgeting and Forecasting:

  • Develop, manage, and track the annual budget in collaboration with department heads
  • Provide financial forecasting and variance analysis to guide business decisions
  • Monitor cash flow, ensuring sufficient funds for daily operations and growth initiatives

Internal Controls and Compliance:

  • Develop and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard the company's assets and ensure the accuracy of financial information
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, provincial, and local legal requirements, advising management on necessary actions

Team Leadership and Development:

  • Lead and mentor the accounting team, providing guidance, support, and training
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, ensuring the team is up-to-date with best practices and new regulations

Process Improvement:

  • Identify opportunities for process optimization within accounting systems, streamlining workflows for greater efficiency
  • Collaborate with other departments to integrate financial goals into company-wide strategies

Additional Duties:

  • Support strategic initiatives by providing financial modeling and analysis
  • Assist in M&A activities, including due diligence and financial integration of acquired entities
  • Perform other duties as required by the CFO

Requirements

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA designation required)
  • 5+ years of experience in a similar role, preferably in a manufacturing or technology environment
  • Proven experience in financial reporting, budgeting, and compliance
  • Strong understanding of Canadian GAAP and IFRS
  • Experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and advanced Excel skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and develop a high-performing team
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, with a keen eye for detail
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously
