Job summary

Siksika Group of Companies is seeking a Controller to provide strong financial leadership across the organization and its subsidiaries. You will oversee accounting operations, financial reporting, month-end and year-end close, audits, compliance, and internal controls to deliver accurate, timely financial information for strategic decision-making.

Qualifications

  • CPA designation preferred or actively pursuing CPA designation.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline; equivalent education and experience considered.
  • 3–5+ years of progressive accounting experience with Controller-level capability preferred.
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge and understanding of Canadian accounting standards and tax regulations.
  • Experience with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end financial reporting.
  • Experience coordinating audits with external auditors.
  • Experience working with multiple entities or group company structures preferred.
  • Public practice experience is an asset.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and accounting/financial software including QuickBooks Online.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee accounting systems and financial processes for Siksika Group of Companies and its subsidiaries.
  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, budgets, and management reports.
  • Lead month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Review and reconcile general ledger accounts and investigate variances.
  • Prepare and review journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • Review invoices, cheques, and other transactions for accuracy.
  • Maintain accurate financial records in electronic and hard-copy formats.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting and cash flow management.
  • Analyze financial performance and provide recommendations to management.
  • Develop financial reporting to support business planning and decision-making.
  • Identify trends, risks, and opportunities across the organization and subsidiaries.
  • Coordinate year-end audits and liaise with external auditors.
  • Ensure compliance with Canadian accounting standards and CRA requirements.
  • Maintain internal controls and strengthen financial processes.
  • Guide and mentor junior accounting staff; drive process improvements.

The Controller will provide strong financial leadership across Siksika Group of Companies and its subsidiaries, overseeing accounting operations, financial reporting, month-end and year-end processes, audits, compliance, and financial controls. This role will ensure the organization has accurate, timely, and high-quality financial information to support sound business decisions and continued growth.

  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, budgets, and management reports.
  • Lead month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timely completion.
  • Review and reconcile general ledger accounts and investigate variances.
  • Prepare and review journal entries and account reconciliations.

  • Identify trends, risks, and opportunities across the organization and its subsidiaries.
Audit, Tax & Compliance
  • Coordinate year-end audits and act as a key liaison with external auditors.
  • Prepare and oversee GST/HST, payroll, and other regulatory filings.
  • Ensure compliance with Canadian accounting standards and CRA requirements.
  • Maintain appropriate internal controls and identify opportunities to strengthen financial processes.
Leadership & Process Improvement
  • Provide guidance, mentorship, and support to junior accounting staff as required.
  • Drive improvements to accounting processes, systems, and internal controls.
  • Support the continued development and scaling of the organization's finance function.
  • Work collaboratively across the organization to ensure financial information and processes support operational needs.
QUALIFICATIONS
