ControllerJ.T. Swyers Group of CompaniesLocation: Remote / St. John’s / Bonavista

Venor is thrilled to partner with our client, J.T. Swyers Group of Companies to lead the search for a Controller. We are seeking an experienced and results-driven Controller to lead and manage the financial operations of their diverse group of companies. Reporting directly to the President, the Controller will be responsible for overseeing all financial accounting functions and ensuring timely, accurate, and insightful financial reporting to support strategic decision-making.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Oversee and manage the full accounting cycle across multiple companies, including general ledger, accounts payable and receivable, payroll, and cash flow management.
  • Prepare and deliver timely financial reports, including income statements, job cost reports, cash flow forecasts, and key business performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Manage and provide leadership to a team of bookkeepers, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and adherence to accounting standards and internal processes.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure compliance and operational efficiency.
  • Conduct financial analysis to support project evaluations, business planning, and decision-making.
  • Lead the preparation of comprehensive year-end working papers and documentation for external accountants and annual review engagements.
  • Provide strategic financial insights to senior leadership and support continuous improvement in financial management practices.

What we’re looking for:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • CPA designation would be an asset.
  • Proficiency in Sage 50, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Exceptional organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Proven leadership ability with experience managing teams and working cross-functionally.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Experience in a construction setting is considered a strong asset.
