The Position

Branchburg is the molecular diagnostics manufacturing engine within Global Operations and a Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) center of excellence. As the largest DIA manufacturing site in North America, our teams deliver a broad portfolio of PCR-based in-vitro diagnostic tests. Our operations include reagent and active diagnostic ingredient (ADI) production, filling, and packaging. Our 63-acre site with approximately 1400 employees is currently under expansion, driven by our culture of agility, innovation, and transformation. Each day, we focus on delivering the value of Roche Diagnostics to patients worldwide.

The Senior Control Systems Engineer provides expertise in engineering, design, installation, and start-up of automation systems. They assist manufacturing operations in problem solving related to automation systems and in the validation of process and facility automation. They may also develop code and design system architectures to define user compatibility and develop label specifications for external suppliers.

The Opportunity:
  • Production System Support - Optimize and troubleshoot industrial manufacturing equipment for filling & packaging operations in an FDA-regulated manufacturing facility.

  • Responsible for overall control system concept and support. Ability to program, configure, and troubleshoot PLCs, HMI, VFDs, Servos, and Vision Systems. Ability to create electrical schematics and other automation/controls-related drawings in conformance to specifications.

  • Establish New Equipment Specifications - Support Operations in designing, maintaining, scaling up, optimizing, automating, troubleshooting, and validating manufacturing processes or equipment. Prepare user requirements and factory acceptance testing strategies for new filling and packaging equipment.

  • Internally Support Technical Topics - Assist fellow Engineering Support team members by interfacing with other technical groups to drive technical discussions. Provide support when exploring new processes or technologies that are technical in nature.

  • Excellent verbal communication skills are required. Ability to explain and instruct others (both technical and non-technical) on complex logic and automation sequences. Excellent interpersonal and technical writing skills are also required. Ability to communicate technical user requirements with equipment suppliers.

Who You Are:
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering preferred. Bachelor of Science in other Engineering disciplines will be considered with equivalent experience.

  • At least 5 years of hands-on experience with a filling/packaging equipment manufacturer or system integrator working in the filling/packaging industry.

  • PLC/HMI programming experience with a focus on Rockwell Software: RSLogix 5000/Studio5000 and FactoryTalk View Machine Edition.

  • Automation and controls engineering experience in an FDA-regulated manufacturing environment.

  • Hands-on troubleshooting experience with maintenance personnel.

  • Basic understanding of industrial communication protocols (Ethernet/IP, OPC-UA).

  • Experience with high-level programming languages (Visual Basic, Python, etc.)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and build collaborative relationships with internal stakeholders and vendors.

  • Ability to summarize complex information and present to varied audiences.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of New Jersey is $84,700 to $157,300. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
