Job summary

Fluor Canada is seeking a disciplined Material Controller lead for complex projects. You will manage material data, take-offs, BOMs, RFQs, expediting, and reporting across engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and field execution.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years in control systems/material control, experience with MATMAN/UNISON, and strong coordination across teams. Ability to read drawings and manage dashboards is essential. Canada-based role with potential site work.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of control systems, instrumentation, automation, or related design/material control experience.
  • Post-secondary qualification in control systems or related technical discipline.
  • Experience with material management software and data standards.
  • Ability to read control system drawings and instrument data.
  • Experience with mining or large EPC projects is a plus.

Job Description

The purpose of this position is to provide essential administrative work processes, technical knowledge, and direction as listed. This role has the responsibility to promote Fluor’s competitiveness within the global marketplace by delivering quality services of unmatched value and technical competence. This position serves as a Discipline Lead Material Controller on assigned projects of difficult complexity and/or Multi Discipline Lead Material Control Coordinator on projects of difficult complexity. Displays advanced knowledge of Fluor’s practices and guidelines. Supports and coordinates control system material control activities across engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and field execution, including material take-offs, Bills of Material, RFQs, purchase order support, expediting, field inquiries, and material status reporting for automation and instrumentation-related scope. Maintains project material data using material management software and applies working knowledge of control system material attributes, instrument and automation device data, I/O and panel-related materials, standard installation details, discipline drawings, key quantity reporting, and the Engineering Responsibility Matrix; experience with MaterialManager℠ (MATMAN), UNISON data standards, Smart Instrumentation, SPI, or similar systems is considered an asset. Assists with project setup and execution by supporting control system material catalogues, instrument index and I/O-related material data, standard installation details, hook-up and loop-related references, composites, business rules, 3D/2D material downloads, MDU setup, dashboards, forecasting tools, quantity tracking, and progress reporting. Coordinates with control systems engineering, electrical engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, project controls, suppliers, system integrators, and clients to support timely material availability, installation readiness, issue resolution, and accurate reporting. Contributes to material control plans, logistics procedures, estimates, schedules, forecasts, trends, dashboards, and quality checks for control system commodities while demonstrating attention to detail, sound judgment, follow-through, and continuous improvement.

Basic Job Requirements
  • Minimum of 5 years of control systems, instrumentation, automation, or related design/material control experience.
  • Post-secondary qualification in control systems, instrumentation, electrical engineering technology, automation, or a related technical discipline.
  • Working knowledge of control system material control processes, including material take-offs, Bills of Material, RFQs, purchase order support, expediting, and material status reporting for instrumentation, automation, panels, network, and field device materials.
  • Basic to intermediate proficiency with material management software, control system material attributes, catalogue data, instrument installation details, loop and hook-up references, panel and cabinet material data, and discipline drawings; experience with MaterialManager℠ (MATMAN), UNISON data standards, Smart Instrumentation, SPI, or similar systems is considered an asset.
  • Ability to support 3D/2D material downloads, MDU setup, dashboards, forecasting tools, quantity tracking, progress reporting, and integration of instrument index, I/O, panel, and control system material data.
  • Understanding of control systems engineering, electrical engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, project controls, and field material management interfaces.
  • Ability to read and interpret control system drawings, instrument indexes, I/O lists, loop diagrams, hook-up details, panel layouts, network architecture references, standard installation details, material specifications, and project documentation.
  • Experience supporting mining projects, large EPC projects, or complex industrial construction and commissioning environments is considered an asset.

  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to work independently or as part of a project team in a fast-paced engineering environment.

Salary is based upon experience. Salary Range: $90,000.00 - $167,000.00.

The market rate for the role is typically at the mid-point of the salary range; however, variations in final salary are determined by additional factors such as the candidate’s qualifications, relevant years of experience, geographic location, internal pay equity, and prevailing market conditions for the specific role.
