Job overview:

We are seeking a dynamic and driven Control Panel Shop Project Manager to oversee the daily operations of the control panel shop, ensuring efficiency in high-quality production and adherence to safety standards. The role includes managing staff, liaising with customers, ensuring timely delivery of products, and controlling costs while maximizing profitability. The Project Manager will also ensure compliance with company policies and industry regulations.

Reports to: President / Owner

Essential duties and responsibilities:

  1. Operational Management: Manage the day-to-day operations of the control panel shop, including scheduling, workflow optimization, and maintaining equipment. Collaborate and consult with all technicians on projects.
  2. Quotations: Prepare and process customer quotations, including proper selection of products, specifications, designs, and determination of appropriate pricing.
  3. Staff Management: Supervise and motivate a team, including training, providing ongoing feedback, and fostering a positive work environment.
  4. Quality Control: Ensure all control panels are built to the highest quality and meet all applicable shop standards and code specifications.
  5. Customer Relations: Act as the primary point of contact for customers, providing updates and ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction.
  6. Health and Safety Compliance: Enforce adherence to workplace safety regulations, maintaining a safe and compliant working environment for all employees.
  7. Cost Control and Budgeting: Monitor expenses, manage inventory, and ensure that costs are controlled without compromising quality.
  8. Reporting and Documentation: Maintain accurate records and provide regular reports to the President regarding shop performance and KPIs.
  9. Supplier Relations: Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers to ensure timely delivery of parts and materials.
  10. Problem Solving: Address any operational issues that arise, such as equipment failures or staffing shortages, ensuring minimal impact on production.

Technical: The incumbent in this role will also be responsible for working alongside for building panels, which includes but is not limited to the following:

  • Reading and interpreting blueprints and schematics.
  • Assembling and wiring electrical control panels, including back-plates, panel cut outs, and mounting and labeling devices.
  • Cutting, stripping, bending, and mounting wires to connect electrical units with the panel box.
  • Identifying and correcting malfunctioning installations and/or components using test equipment and hand tools.
  • Ensuring continuity of circuits in electrical wiring to ensure safety of the system.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Post-secondary education in Electrical Technology, or other equivalent education and experience.
  • Proven experience as a Control Panel Shop Manager or in a similar leadership role within the industrial sector, with 2-4 years of experience building panels.
  • Experience working with Dynamics Business Central for a minimum of 2 years transforming critical business processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret various electrical layout schematics, mechanical aptitude, and experience using basic tools.
  • Experience with Motor Control Centres would be an asset.
  • Exceptional organization skills and experience with warehouse organization and management is a plus.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills, with a proven ability to take charge, lead initiatives, and drive results.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for both customer and staff relations.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Lifting up to 35lbs is an essential job function.
  • Must possess a valid class G2 Driver’s License, or better, with a clean driving record.

Working conditions: On-site conditions can vary, either working in a trailer on site, walking or on your feet for long periods of time, high levels of noise, weather and temperature can vary depending on the season, mainly outdoors.
