Job summary

Dawn Staffing Solutions Inc. is seeking a highly skilled Controls Engineer for a manufacturing client in the GTA. The role involves developing control models, validating plant systems, and supporting embedded control integration.

You will work with MATLAB/Simulink/Simscape, model-based design, and SIL/PIL/HIL testing, with occasional travel to customer sites. A strong background in ECUs and CAN protocols is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in mechanical, mechatronics, or electrical engineering.
• 5+ years of experience in control systems development.
• Proficiency in MATLAB, Simulink, and Simscape.
• Experience with ECU hardware and CAN/J1939 communication.

Responsibilities

• Analyze legacy control logic, software, and architectures.
• Develop control models using MATLAB/Simulink/Simscape.
• Create hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical plant models for validation.
• Support SIL, PIL, and HIL testing.
• Assist embedded control systems development and integration.
• Produce test procedures, validation plans, and docs.
• Participate in design reviews to reduce project risks.
• Perform in-house testing and on-vehicle commissioning.
• Provide diagnostics and troubleshooting for customers and field issues.
• Travel to customer sites as required.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Analyze and navigate legacy control logic, software, and system architectures.
• Develop control models using MATLAB/Simulink/Simscape.
• Develop hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical plant models for control-system validation.
• Support SIL, PIL, and HIL testing.
• Support the development and integration of embedded control systems.
• Create technical documentation, test procedures, and validation plans.
• Participate in design reviews to identify technical issues and reduce project risks.
• Perform in-house testing and on-vehicle commissioning.
• Provide diagnostics and troubleshooting support for customer and field issues.
• Travel to customer sites as required.

Skills & Experience

• Bachelor s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in control systems development.
• Strong proficiency in MATLAB, Simulink, and Simscape.
• Experience with model-based design and SIL/PIL/HIL testing.
• Experience with Electronic Control Units (ECUs); TTControl experience is an asset.
• Experience with Git/GitHub/GitLab.
• Experience with J1939/CAN communication protocols.
• Knowledge of ISO 26262 or other functional safety standards is an asset.
• Familiarity with microcontrollers, sensors, motors, electronics, and hydraulics.
• Experience in automotive, aerospace, defense, or other safety-critical industries is an asset.
