Job summary

Hatch in Calgary, Alberta is seeking an Engineer-in-Training for Control and Automation. The role supports projects globally from our Calgary office, with opportunities in other Hatch offices and at project job sites.

You will work under the discipline lead, contributing to automation design and control system documentation. You will develop skills in PLC/DCS programming, instrumentation, P&IDs, test procedures, and design reviews while collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams across

Qualifications

Must be working towards graduating in 2027, or recently graduated, with a Bachelor of Applied Science, Bachelor of Engineering, Master of Applied Science, or Master of Engineering degree in Electrical Engineering or Chemical Engineering from an accredited University.
Excel academically while being actively involved in extra-curricular and/or volunteer activities at school or in the community.
Interest in Control Systems engineering and communication systems will be considered an asset.
Previous co-op or work terms in the controls, automation and electrical engineering design and execution will be considered an asset.
Technical experience with controls systems design, databases, programming, ability to use data-centric design tools and proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (SharePoint, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) will be preferred.

Responsibilities

Work independently and as part of a team to complete control and automation engineering design deliverables for a variety of projects.
Prepare Control and Automation deliverables, including but not limited to Instrumentation and Control Design Criteria, Communication design criteria, P&IDs, and procurement packages.
Develop engineering lists and design deliverables (I/O lists, loop drawings, control system architecture).
Program using PLC and/or DCS as per project requirements and develop test procedures.
Travel to project sites including remote locations.
