Job summary

A construction solutions company in Calgary is seeking a Contracts Specialist to support project-specific construction contracts. Responsibilities include reviewing and negotiating agreements, ensuring compliance with internal processes, and collaborating with teams to meet client requirements. Responsibilities

  • Review and negotiate subcontract agreements.
  • Prepare insurance program enrollments with compliance checks.
  • Explain contract terminology to clients in simple language.
  • Clearly explains contract terminology to clients and other interested parties in simple, everyday language.
  • Self-monitors progress according to the schedule of completion to submit drafts and documents in a timely manner.
  • Collaborates with other internal departments including sales staff to ensure the company can meet legal requirements of client.
  • Ensures all internal processes are completed in the file for audit trail purposes.

Job description

The Contracts Specialist is responsible for reviewing the contents of project-specific construction subcontract agreements and making necessary changes for work to be performed. This role will also involve negotiating with customers regarding revisions to subcontract agreements and will assist the Contracts Manager in providing support to corporate operations.

Salary: The compensation for this role will be commensurate based on education and/or experience.

Overview
Responsibilities
  • Reviews Redline and Negotiates, Master Service Agreements, Subcontracts, and Purchase Orders submitted by clients to conform with internal company risk mitigation factors.
  • Reviews and obtains specialized insurance certificates from client submitted requirements.
  • Prepares and completes Owner Controlled Insurance Program enrollments through multiple external administrators, while confirming internal company risk mitigation factors are met.
  • Clearly explains contract terminology to clients and other interested parties in simple, everyday language.
  • Self-monitors progress according to the schedule of completion to submit drafts and documents in a timely manner.
  • Collaborates with other internal departments including sales staff to ensure the company can meet legal requirements of client.
  • Ensures all internal processes are completed in the file for audit trail purposes.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Two (2) or more years of contract/legal experience or Construction management experience
  • Knowledge of current and legally binding contractual language and terminology.
  • Strong computer proficiency with a variety of software applications, including MS-Office Suite and PDF software and excellent typing skills.
  • Ability to identify, analyze, and suggest solutions for problems, customer complaints, and client concerns.
  • Strong written, verbal and analytical skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, team player.
  • Strong organizational skills, detail oriented.
  • Clear adherence to company policies and procurement rules and regulations.
  • Good organization skills and the ability to multitask on several projects simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of negotiation best practices, both in-person and in written form, that considers cultural norms, and the client\'s best interests.
