Job description

We’re looking for a Contracts & Compliance Consultant to join the US LIFE Contracts & Compliance team. In this role, you will work with the Product Development area to coordinate the drafting of life insurance policies, applications, riders, and amendments. You will be responsible for filing the
products with state insurance departments and working with regulators to secure approval of the forms in each jurisdiction in a timely manner. Finally, once the forms are approved, you will work with our Systems IT partners to validate that the approved forms are implemented
correctly on the print engine.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the drafting of new policy forms in collaboration with our colleagues in the Product Development area (Actuaries, Product Managers, Attorneys) with a focus on accurately describing the product's features and ensuring the forms are compliant with state insurance laws;

  • Use SERFF (the “System for Electronic Rate and Forms Filings”) to file forms and all the supporting documentation with the state insurance regulators;

  • Respond to regulators’ questions and objections in order to secure approval in all jurisdictions;

  • Create and maintain tools and records for tracking all the various forms, their submission & approval dates, and any objections/responses received in relation to a product;

  • Monitor developments in the regulation of life insurance, especially where changes could affect the filing and approval of our products;
    Develop and maintain process improvements and best practices;

  • Assist in the review of sample policy packages to ensure the filed forms are incorporated into the product as approved by the states;

  • Cultivate and maintain good relationships with regulators

Additionally, you will support our area’s compliance functions with:

  • Providing research and documentation in relation to Market Conduct Exams;

  • Fulfilling requests for information from Claims and Operations areas;

  • Quarterly and annual reporting of Compliance Issues;

  • Monitoring regulatory developments and working with trade associations to provide input when appropriate;

  • Liaising with our partners in the Legal department to assist with inquiries related to complaints, claims, and litigation.

Required Qualifications:

  • Outstanding writing skills (drafting, grammar, editing)

  • A keen eye for detail and ability to catch errors in documents

  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply legislation

  • Proven research skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word & Adobe Acrobat

Preferred Qualifications:

  • University education

  • Previous experience in a legal/regulatory compliance setting

  • Prior exposure to life insurance products

Salary range is expected to be between

$71,925.00 CAD - $119,875.00 CAD
