Due to a vacancy, the Municipality of Grey Highlands is pleased to invite applications for the contract position of Transportation Operator. Reporting to TPS Team Leader, or the Supervisor of Operations if the Team Leader is absent, performs duties as directed to ensure safe operations and maintenance of municipal infrastructure, including all municipal roads, within Grey Highlands.
Safely maintains public transportation infrastructure, facilities and equipment for effective road maintenance and construction. This includes, but is not limited to:

Develops and maintains good working relationships with Council, staff and the public which includes:
Responsible, as an employee, for health & safety under the Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA). This includes, but is not limited to:
Work involves a substantial amount of heavy lifting (40-50 lbs), carrying, crawling and climbing. Subject to the requirements of the OHSA, there may be times when the road maintenance operations continue in all weather, including severe conditions such as freezing rain, blizzards, and white outs with poor visibility and/or slippery conditions. A high degree of mental alertness is required to ensure the safety of oneself and others as working with heavy equipment, vehicles, unpredictable traffic conditions, road rage, tools and hazardous chemicals is required. There is a high risk of exposure to various risks such as dust, chemicals, smells, broken glass, and sharp objects, as well as the potential for slips when moving items. Hours of work are scheduled within the core operating hours of 7:00 A.M.- 3:30 P.M. with a half hour unpaid lunch break. The normal work week is 40 hours. Subject to availability, a flexible schedule is required to account for operational coverage outside of core hours, including emergencies, holidays, weekends, on-call, and seasonal shifts.
Communication with internal and external individuals is regular in this position. Internal communications may be with coworkers, TPS Team Lead, and Supervisor of Operations. External communications may be with the public, consultants, and contractors.
