Island Radio 101.3 FM is an established non-profit community-led radio station that's been operating in Loyalist Township, ON, since 2006. Serving the Kingston and surrounding areas courtesy of our 4800-watt “Tower of Power” located on Amherst Island, we are a fully licensed, independent FM radio station. Our programming offers an eclectic mix of music, with over 150 “Live To Air” musical performances from our studios each year.
Our dedicated team also showcases local news and events happening throughout Eastern Ontario. We are growing and we are seeking a paid Contract Station Manager to help manage the expansion of our new 1,500 sq ft Media Hub location in Bath and maintain our studio location on Amherst Island. We are excited to welcome a Station Manager to the team, starting in June 2025! Reporting to the President, key responsibilities include:
- Oversee daily operations of the radio station, including all broadcast studios and the tower site
- Provide leadership, supervision, training, and guidance to volunteers and staff
- Provide technical support to volunteers and ensure the maintenance of equipment at the station
- Management of the weekly broadcast schedule, including responding to SOCAN audits
- Participating in monthly Board Meetings in a non-voting capacity
- Maintain strong working relationships with advertisers, funding agencies, and be the station's primary liaison to the National Campus and Community Radio Association (NCRA)
- Lead commission-based grant writing and fundraising efforts
- Perform bookkeeping tasks under the direction of the Treasurer
- Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations of the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) and Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED)
- Create audio commercials and other audio elements
- Maintain the integrity of the music library
- Lead the Charity Radio Bingo initiative, including complying with provincial and municipal licensing requirements
- Oversee execution of strategy to achieve the goals outlined by the Board of Directors
- Assist in the development and administration of radio station policies
- Liaise with local musicians to invite them to use the Live Recording Facilities at the Media Hub
- Recruit and host out of area musicians for in-studio live musical performances on 101.3 FM, and recording the tracks for music production
Additional responsibilities include:
- Coordinating and conducting interviews with local musicians and reporting on local music news
- Work with Social Media Coordinator to create content to promote our DJs, local musicians, and events on social media streams that are managed by Island Radio, including Facebook, Bluesky, Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok
- Collaborating with other Island Radio team members on initiatives of our non-profit organization
- Editing, mixing, and mastering audio tracks with modern digital equipment
- Represent CJAI at local music festivals and public arts, culture, music and/or film events
- Supporting music video production
- Hosting a live radio show on 101.3 FM
- Attending local public events (arts-, culture- and music-related) representing Island Radio
What you’ll bring:
- Proven success within a Content Leadership role, ie: Show Producer, Content Director/Manager
- Expertise in talent management and show development
- Excellent knowledge of local independent music from all genres
- Outstanding communication skills and exceptional time management
- Excellent organizational skills and detail-oriented, as well as ability to multitask
- Ability to work independently, yet a strong team player with a terrific attitude
- Experience with PlayOutOne Pro, SAM, REAPER Media and other radio software is desirable
