Job summary

NAIT’s Department of Corporate & Continuing Education seeks Contract Instructors to teach in Indigenous communities across Alberta and beyond. Instructors travel to remote areas, with daytime Monday–Friday availability and some weekend work, delivering courses in trades like AIT Entrance Exam Prep, Carpentry, Electrical, Plumbing, Welding and Culinary.

You will adapt teaching to adult learners, use appropriate tools and educational technology, and maintain records.

Qualifications

  • Certification in your field of work required.
  • Instructional experience considered an asset.
  • Ability to build positive, respectful relationships with diverse learners.
  • Strong commitment to student success and independence.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Proficiency with MS Office and related educational technologies.

NAIT’s Department of Corporate & Continuing Education is seeking Contract Instructors who are both willing and capable of teaching specifically in Indigenous communities across Alberta, Saskatchewan, British Columbia, Yukon, Nunavut, and the Northwest Territories. The role involves travel and accommodation in remote areas, with daytime availability required from Monday to Friday. Some weekend availability may be required. Each instructor will teach within their specific trade area of expertise, such as AIT Entrance Exam Prep, Carpentry, Electrical, Plumbing, Welding and Culinary. Instructors may teach existing Continuing Education courses or assist in delivering customized training for clients. Contract Instructors must be flexible, resourceful, innovative and passionate about teaching adults of all ages and backgrounds.

Contract Instruction Deliverables:
  • Utilize appropriate tools & equipment to instruct students & provide practical hands-on learning.
  • Facilitate the learning process by utilizing instructional strategies that ensure efficient and effective delivery of course materials
  • Utilize appropriate educational technology for communications and presentations
  • Maintain professional ethical relationships with students and colleagues; respond professionally to student issues and concerns
  • Maintain student attendance and other documentation as required
  • Having a degree of flexibility and fluidity that matches the needs of our Indigenous students.
Qualifications:
  • Certification in your field of work
  • Instructional experience considered an asset
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive, respectful relationships with diverse learners and colleagues
  • A strong commitment to student success, including motivating learners and supporting academic achievement
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, suitable for instructional, advisory, and collaborative settings
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and related educational technologies
  • Excellent classroom management and instructional skills
  • A high level of independence is required
