The Opportunity - Contract Instructor, Surface Land Management (Industry Training & Continuing Education)

The Contract Instructor – Surface Land Management is responsible for delivering specialized training in surface land management, land negotiations, regulatory compliance, and industry best practices. This role involves teaching students about land agreements, lease acquisitions, environmental considerations, and stakeholder relations in the oil & gas, energy, and infrastructure sectors. The instructor will review curriculum, facilitate learning, and provide industry insights to prepare students for careers in surface land management.

Key Job Functions

  • Plan and prepare for instruction in alignment with overall program objectives
  • Delivery of instruction, addressing various learning styles and needs relative to course content
  • Evaluate and report on student progress
  • Work with other College departments to facilitate and support learner success (for example, accommodations)
  • Create a learning environment that encourages student engagement and success
  • Be accessible to students outside the classroom, providing ample periods of time for counseling and mentoring students in matters related to academic success
  • Monitor classroom supplies and tools inventory
  • Perform various tasks to support student success:
    • First point of contact for student concerns
    • Monitor student performance and behaviour
    • Submit appropriate reports and forms as required
    • Maintain confidentiality and security of student information
  • Learn and implement technology and teaching tools to enhance the educational experience when appropriate
  • Perform other activities related to instructional assignment such as coordinating activities within a program or programs, and participating in College development initiatives
  • Collaborate with colleagues to scaffold skills within courses and programs to create an exceptional student experience
Education/Experience/Skills/Knowledge Required

  • Diploma or degree in Surface Land Management, Land Administration, Real Estate, Law, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of industry experience in surface land negotiations, acquisitions, regulatory compliance, or land administration.
  • Teaching or corporate training experience is an asset.
  • Experience with online delivery and platforms (i.e. Moodle, D2L, Blackboard)

  • Knowledge and skills in current technology applications relevant to the program and subject matter content.
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and oral)
  • Actively promote and reinforce practices that prioritize the well-being and security of all individuals at Olds College, show a proactive attitude towards safety measures, continuously striving to enhance safety protocols and procedures to ensure the highest standards of protection, collaborate with colleagues to instill a culture of shared responsibility and accountability when it comes to maintaining a safe and secure work setting
