Job description

At Vicwest, we are “Building for Tomorrow” and are currently looking for a Continuous Improvement Engineer to join our Burlington office.

Position Summary:

The Continuous Improvement Engineer reports directly to the VP, Operations and is responsible for identifying and executing process improvement initiatives that enhance operational efficiency, product quality, and cost-effectiveness within a manufacturing environment. Utilizing Lean, Six Sigma, and other data-driven methodologies, this role collaborates with cross-functional teams to implement sustainable improvements across production processes and systems. The engineer plays a key role in driving a culture of continuous improvement to support business growth and operational excellence.

Key Accountabilities:

1. Drive Operational Efficiency: Support and implement initiatives aimed at enhancing manufacturing productivity, reducing waste, and improving overall equipment and process efficiency.

2. Ensure Quality and Process Optimization: Continuously improve product quality and production workflows by identifying and eliminating inefficiencies and variability in processes.

3. Lead Data-Driven Improvement Projects: Apply Lean, Six Sigma, and other analytical methodologies to assess current operations and lead cross-functional teams in developing and executing sustainable improvement strategies.

Major Responsibilities

  • Analyze current manufacturing processes to identify areas of inefficiency and recommend improvements.
  • Lead and support continuous improvement projects using Lean, Six Sigma, 5S, and Kaizen methodologies.
  • Collaborate with production, quality, engineering, and maintenance teams to implement process changes.
  • Conduct root cause analyses (RCA), value stream mapping, time studies, and failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA).
  • Assist in developing standard operating procedures (SOPs) and visual work instructions.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and track progress of improvement efforts.
  • Facilitate training sessions and workshops to promote a culture of continuous improvement among operators and production admin staff.
  • Participate in equipment layout optimization and factory workflow improvements.
  • Support cost reduction efforts through process optimization, material utilization, and labor efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and regulatory requirements during all improvement activities.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
  • 2–5 years of engineering experience in a manufacturing or production environment.
  • Hands-on experience with Lean manufacturing and Six Sigma tools (certification preferred).
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to collect and interpret data to drive decisions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for team collaboration.
  • Proficient in CAD tools, Excel, and statistical analysis software (e.g., Minitab).
  • Self-starter with a hands-on approach and strong attention to detail.
  • Bilingual is preferred (French/English)
