Continuing Studies Instructors – UI Design Micro-Certificates

Position Title Continuing Studies Instructors – UI Design Micro-Certificates

Job Summary

The Continuing Studies department at Emily Carr University of Art + Design is seeking experienced designers/educators to join our instructional team for our soon-to-be-released User Interface (UI) Design Micro-Certificates. These short-format micro-certificates provide practical, hands-on learning for emerging designers looking to build foundational and intermediate UI design skills.

We are looking for applicants with proven teaching experience who are enthusiastic about working with diverse learners, from those new to design, to creatives transitioning into UI, to experienced designers looking to expand their skillset with UI design. If you are excited to teach foundational skills, design processes, and industry-standard tools in a collaborative studio environment, we want to hear from you.

About our Foundations Micro-Certificates:
The UI Design Micro-Certificates offer accessible, practice-based training for emerging designers building their skills in user interface design. Each micro-certificate includes three connected courses delivered over eight weeks. Instruction is hands-on and emphasizes design fundamentals, creative process, and applied learning.

Students will explore topics such as:

  • Visual design basics like layout, colour, and typography
  • Designing easy-to-use digital experiences
  • Creating clickable prototypes and animated interactions
  • Structuring content and designing for navigation
  • Working with real-world design tools like Figma and Adobe CC

Projects, critiques, and team activities help students practice what they’re learning and build confidence through real-world-style design work.

Student Profile:

These micro-certificates are designed for early-career designers, career changers, and creative professionals seeking to build their UI design skills. Continuing Studies students bring a range of experience levels and can come from various disciplines, including graphic design, fine arts, communications, and self-taught practice.

Schedule + Compensation:
We offer two distinct, stackable micro-certificates as part of the UI Design Micro-Certificates. Courses may be scheduled on weeknights and/or weekends, depending on the term and delivery format.

  • UI Design Foundations Micro-Certificate
  • UI Visual Design Micro-Certificate

Each micro-certificate includes three courses delivered over 8 weeks, with classes scheduled three times per week. Each session is 3 hours, totalling 72 instructional hours per micro-certificate. The next offering of the micro-certificate is in Fall 2025.

Instructors are contracted on a per-course basis, with each course comprising approximately 24 instructional hours. We are looking for applicants who are available for on-campus and/or online teaching. Please indicate your interest and availability in your application.

Continuing Studies instructors are contracted to teach at an hourly rate of $90.21.

Responsibilities:
