University of Victoria is seeking a janitorial worker to perform routine cleaning and upkeep of university facilities. The role involves mobility, bending, lifting and reaching to clean furniture, floors, walls and other surfaces, including washrooms.
The position requires knowledge of cleaning tools, materials and methods, gained through on‑the‑job experience or formal training. Occasional operation of light trucks may be required to support cleaning duties.
Performs janitorial work necessary for the routine cleaning and upkeep of buildings and facilities which involves constant mobility, bending, lifting and reaching. Cleans and maintains all surfaces of furniture, furnishings, floors, walls and other surfaces. Moves furniture and equipment when required. Clears and cleans waste containers and sorts material for proper disposal. Cleans glass surfaces not requiring the use of scaffolds or safety devices. Cleans, disinfects and provides supplies for washrooms. Operates all manner of hand and power tools and performs routine maintenance on assigned equipment. Requests supplies and materials as required and stores for ready use. Reports furniture, fixtures and other facilities in need of repair. Maintains high standard of cleanliness, sanitation and safety and assists in maintaining security of facilities, in assigned areas. Other related duties as required, including occasional operation of light truck in performance of above duties.
Demonstrated knowledge of cleaning tools, materials, equipment, methods and techniques used in building cleaning, gained either through on-the-job experience or completion of formal training
