Responsibilities

Job description

Job Summary

Reporting to the Manager, Continuing Education, and where applicable, receives day-to-day supervision provided by local campus management. The Continuing Education (CE) Coordinator is responsible for assessing program and industry needs for their assigned portfolio; cultivating and maintaining mutually beneficial relationships with partners; coordinating new continuing education course and program development; researching funding opportunities; writing proposals; and coordinating programming which supports local needs. This position requires quality decision-making and guidance reflecting student, regional, community, client, and institutional needs. In addition, this position is responsible for implementing, monitoring, and reporting on new programming. The CE Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the offering and delivery of sufficient programming to justify the position and related delivery and administrative costs.


Specific Duties


  • Coordinate the development and implementation of a diverse range of relevant continuing education courses and programs that align with industry trends and market needs. This includes but is not limited to conducting needs assessments; collaborating with subject matter experts and instructors in support of the creation, evaluation and revision of curriculum that is high-quality, inclusive and engaging; and preparing course and program submissions for Education Council approval.

  • Identify and pursue opportunities with businesses, professional organizations, and community groups to expand programming reach that supports regional labour market needs.

  • Liaise with external partners, as well as College personnel to identify and prioritize programming and funding opportunities that align with the college’s strategic direction.

  • Research, write, and negotiate grant and funding proposals with funding agencies and college partners.

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the Continuing Education strategy.

  • Contribute to the overall development and implementation of the Continuing Education marketing plan.

  • In collaboration with marketing staff, initiate marketing campaigns ensuring it is aligned to agreed funder specifications.

  • Responsible for the financial viability of programming within their purview. This includes developing, monitoring, and maintaining budgets; negotiating budgets with partners; preparing short and long-range enrolment and financial projections for programming.

  • Perform prescribed tasks of faculty/staff recruitment, training, development and maintenance processes, such as working with educational administration, faculty, and/or community partners to identify preferred qualifications; identifying potential faculty; making arrangements with faculty for offered positions; and ensuring faculty are informed about divisional administrative processes relevant to their educational activities.

  • Prepare contract information and other forms as required.

  • Assist with delivery of staff, faculty, and student orientation as required.

  • Communicate with community partners, instructors, staff, and students regarding program information and other administrative issues that arise.

  • Create and facilitate relationships between the employment community, students, and the College in order to connect students to relevant work integrated learning opportunities.

  • Gather and analyse course evaluations and partner feedback, identifying needs and trends and preparing reports and recommendations for future offerings.

  • Assess administrative components of programming and provide appropriate advice and direction to other staff as required – this includes opening, monitoring, and closing programming sections.

  • Prepare regular reports regarding financials, programming, and enrolment.

  • Facilitates student selection processes as required.

  • Participate in student recruitment and information events, as required.

  • Communicate with internal and external partners, and provide advice regarding direction, opportunities, policy, and procedures affecting program delivery. Maintain open communications about partnership developments with Manager, Continuing Education.

  • Escalate issues to management or refer students and staff to college resources, as appropriate.

  • You will be part of a team actively engaged in contributing to and accomplishing the vision, mission, and goals of the College and in supporting the aspirations and needs of our learners and communities.

  • You will promote a positive work atmosphere and communicate in a professional manner that demonstrates mutual respect with students and colleagues.

  • Other related duties as assigned.


Skills & Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) specializing in in Business/Commerce or Adult Education

  • Certified Program Programmer designation preferred

  • 5 years or more experience in adult education and training coordination; business or project development or similar field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered

  • Experience working with industry, business, community organizations, First Nations communities in education/training

  • Knowledge of adult and community education philosophy and process

  • Working knowledge of training needs assessment processes and development

  • Experience writing grant funding proposals

  • Understanding of how to write learning outcomes

  • Demonstrated understanding of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Call to Actions and DRIPA

  • Proven ability to effectively manage all resources for project completion

  • Proven research and investigation skills

  • Working knowledge of industry, business, funding agencies and community resources

  • Demonstrated facilitation skills

  • Ability to motivate others to maintain quality services in a constantly changing environment

  • Proven ability to exercise organizational and routine supervisory skills

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; written skills must be demonstrated

  • Ability to work independently and meet demanding work schedules and timelines

  • Proficient in appropriate office-related technology

  • Must be able to work flexible hours as required
