Job description

The YMCA of Southwestern New Brunswick is working hard to address the critical issues facing the region: the health crisis, population decline, youth outmigration and child poverty. At the Y, we are striving to build a diverse and inclusive community where each person is valued for the unique perspectives and contributions they bring.

The Y team is a community of 450 employees and 500 volunteers, offering a diverse set of programs at 19 locations within the city and surrounding municipalities. If you don’t have a Y story yet – now is your opportunity. We invite you to see what the power of belonging can do for you, your career and your community.

The Opportunity

As aContent & Community Engagement Coordinator at the YMCA of Southwestern New Brunswick, you will play a key role in capturing and sharing the stories that reflect the YMCA’s mission and impact across our communities. Working closely with internal teams and the Digital Marketing & Social Media Coordinator, you will create content that connects with diverse audiences across digital platforms, email, print, and promotional materials.

In this role, you will write compelling, human-centered stories, capture meaningful moments through photography and video, and produce engaging short-form content that brings the YMCA’s values to life while supporting broader digital marketing efforts.

This is a full-time, on-site position, primarily operating Monday to Friday, with occasional evening and weekend hours required to support community events. You will report directly to the Manager of Marketing and Communications.

If you are a natural storyteller with a passion for community-building and creating meaningful content that makes a difference, we invite you to join our team.

Responsibilities

  • Write engaging blog posts, stories, and profiles that highlight YMCA members, staff, volunteers, and newcomers.
  • Capture high-quality photos and videos at programs, classes, and community events across YMCA locations.
  • Produce short-form video content (e.g., Reels, TikToks) that promotes YMCA programs and culture.
  • Collaborate with the Digital Marketing & Social Media Coordinator to ensure alignment of content with campaign themes and branding.
  • Support planning and coordination of content for monthly newsletters and email campaigns.
  • Maintain and update website content, including program pages, news updates, and story features.
  • Attend YMCA events to gather content and assist with event marketing logistics (e.g., signage, setup, on-site coverage).
  • Work with departments across the association to uncover storytelling opportunities.
  • Organize and maintain an internal archive of visual content for marketing use.
  • Contribute story leads and original content ideas that support larger campaigns and reflect YMCA values.
  • Provide administrative and creative support to the Marketing and Communications team as needed.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in communications, journalism, marketing, media studies, or a related field—or equivalent experience in a similar role.
  • Strong writing and storytelling skills, with a good understanding of brand tone and voice.
  • Experience capturing photo and video content using smartphones or cameras.
  • Familiarity with editing tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Express, iMovie, Cap Cut) is an asset.
  • Experience creating engaging short-form video content for platforms like Instagram and TikTok.
  • Familiarity with social media trends and audience engagement strategies.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to connect with diverse individuals.
  • Well-organized, proactive, and capable of managing multiple content projects and deadlines.
  • Experience using basic content management systems (e.g., WordPress or similar).
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments to uncover and shape stories.
  • Passion for community engagement, diversity, and storytelling with purpose.
  • Commitment to diversity, inclusion, and community building, aligned with the YMCA’s mission.

What We Offer

  • YMCA membership
  • In-house training and professional development opportunities
  • Uniform and uniform allowance
  • Personal “Y Day”
  • Competitive compensation package, including benefits and pension plan
  • Opportunities for career growth
  • Opportunities for cross-training across department
