Job description

GENERAL FUNCTION

The Contact Lens Technician attracts and retains customers by delivering an exceptional customer experience, fostering customer retention, and promoting outstanding associate/doctor satisfaction.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Drive profitable store sales by fostering a retail selling culture through practicing NECE and using effective retail sales skills.
  2. Develop professional business relationships with other associates and doctors.
  3. Fill ophthalmic eyeglass prescriptions and fit and adapt contact lenses, lenses, and frames.
  4. Determine customers' vision needs.
  5. Evaluate prescriptions in conjunction with customers' visual requirements using optical prescriptions.
  6. Conduct corneal measurements (K readings).
  7. Evaluate eye health with the use of a slit lamp.
  8. Assess fit and vision of contact lenses and provide training on correct insertion and removal.
  9. Communicate with contact lens vendors regarding trial lenses, unpack deliveries, verify correct orders, and ensure proper fit for customers.
  10. Provide follow-up visits to ensure health and proper fit and vision post-initial visit.
  11. Insert and remove contact lenses for patients.
  12. Recommend specific lenses, lens coatings, and frames to suit customer needs.
  13. Assist customers in selecting frames and coordinate frames with optical measurements.
  14. Conduct measurements of bridge size, eye size, temple length, vertex distance, pupillary distance, and optical centers using appropriate tools.
  15. Ensure the store is effectively merchandised and presented according to planograms and company standards.
  16. Maintain security of company assets.
  17. Ensure high quality through accurate measurements, correct pricing, data entry, and realistic delivery time quotes.
  18. Maximize Managed Vision Care relationships and sales opportunities where applicable.
  19. Assist with the implementation of marketing programs, signage, and promotions according to company standards.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in retail operations.
  • CL license (where required).
  • Optician license (where required).
  • State licensure or certification by a recognized opticianry association as an optician.
  • Experience in retail or customer service environments.
  • Strong sales skills and accountability for sales results.
  • Ability to develop and implement creative solutions to grow the business.
  • Excellent communication skills to meet/exceed customer expectations and foster positive relationships with staff and doctors.
  • Attention to detail and store merchandising skills.
  • Ability to manage priorities, adapt, and follow up effectively.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with personal computers.

Pay Range: $18.12 - $31.38

Employee compensation depends on factors such as location, experience, and skills. Benefits may include health care, retirement plans, paid time off, and employee discounts. A bonus or commission plan may also be offered.
