The Department of Psychiatry at BC Children's Hospital is seeking a consulting psychiatrist to work on the eating disorders inpatient unit associated with the Provincial Specialized Eating Disorders Program for Children and Adolescents. This position is for 0.6 FTE, with potential to increase to 1.0 FTE through involvement in other mental health services at BCCH.
The Provincial Specialized Eating Disorders Program for Children and Adolescents is a multidisciplinary service within BCCH, specializing in assessment and evidence-based treatment for children and youth aged 8-18 with eating disorders and coexisting mental health conditions. The role involves primarily clinical work on the inpatient unit, with remuneration through Fee for Service (MSP billings) and sessional support. Opportunities may exist for outpatient care and group involvement. Prior experience in assessing and treating children and youth with eating disorders is desirable.
The psychiatrist will work within a multidisciplinary team including Nursing, Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Dietetics, and Adolescent Medicine. The role includes providing trauma-informed care, clinical support, and education to primary care providers, pediatricians, and psychiatrists across the province.
BC Children's Hospital Department of Psychiatry offers teaching and supervision to medical students, residents, and fellows. While primarily clinical, participation in teaching and research opportunities is encouraged when available.
Applicants should demonstrate a commitment to academic and clinical excellence, patient- and family-centered care, and have or be eligible for RCPSC certification in psychiatry. Preference is given to those with completed or near completion of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry subspecialty training. A Clinical Faculty appointment with UBC is expected. Candidates should have experience working in multidisciplinary teams and employ a trauma-informed approach.
