The Role

They are seeking an experienced and adaptable Network Engineer to join their advanced network team. This role involves designing, deploying, troubleshooting, and supporting network solutions for various clients. The ideal candidate will thrive in environments requiring both technical expertise and strong communication skills, as they will work across diverse sectors with a wide variety of network technologies. The role demands flexibility and an ability to work outside a typical office setting, gaining exposure to different technologies while supporting critical client operations. Based in Saskatoon, the role requires 50% travel.

The Responsibilities

  • Consult and communicate with clients to find effective network solutions that suit their business and situation.
  • Configure and manage network devices, including routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless radios.
  • Diagnose network issues promptly and resolve them efficiently, ensuring minimal downtime.
  • Conduct site surveys to assess wireless coverage and prepare coverage maps.
  • Travel occasionally to various locations within western Canada, including industrial environments and remote sites.
  • Handle physical setup of network equipment in data centers and outdoor or industrial settings, ensuring proper installation and configuration.
  • Conduct remote network setups and configurations in cloud environments like AWS, Azure, and GCP.
  • Engage in ongoing training to remain current with emerging technologies such as Cisco, VMware, Dell, and Palo-Alto.
  • Collaborate with clients to ensure network services meet their operational needs, particularly in critical industries such as mining, manufacturing, and telecommunications.
  • Maintain strict safety protocols and wear appropriate protective gear when on-site.
  • Track time and deliver project updates accurately and on schedule.

The Requirements

  • A good communicator with a consultative edge who enjoys interacting with clients and having technical discussions with like-minded individuals.
  • Certifications such as CCNA, CCNP in routing and switching or wireless, or CWNA are advantageous.
  • Strong foundational knowledge in IP routing, switching theory, and protocols like TCP / UDP, OSPF, EIGRP, and BGP.
  • Familiarity with industrial networking protocols such as MODBUS, PROFINET, and BACNet over IP networks.
  • Experience with network devices such as Cisco ISR and ASR routers, Catalyst and Nexus switches, and Cisco ASA firewalls.
  • Practical knowledge of Cisco Meraki solutions, including MX, MS, and MR models.
  • Expertise in VPN technologies and remote access solutions, including Cisco ISE and RADIUS authentication.
  • Experience with cloud-based networking and SD-WAN technologies like Velocloud, Meraki, and Viptela.
  • Familiarity with network management tools like Ekahau for site surveys and Cisco ACI or VMware NSX for network virtualization.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities in both technical and client-facing situations.
