Job Title: Senior Underwriter - Engineered Property

Individual contributor responsible for the overall management, business development, analysis, and monitoring of a book of business of the highest complexity within Engineered Property. Recognized as the most senior level, technical expert in an underwriting specialty. Works within defined limits of authority, requiring a high degree of technical complexity and coordination. May have a national or company-wide scope of responsibility in the specialty area.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates with senior management on complex underwriting risks, employing advanced diagnostic and systematic analysis to assess acceptability. Develops specialized endorsement language for the most complex risks.
  • Determines appropriate pricing for assigned book of business based on financial and competitive analysis, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of underwriting policies, marketing strategies, and business plans.
  • Interprets corporate strategies and initiatives to tailor the company's approach based on the assigned territory and builds consensus within the organization.
  • Analyzes the quality, quantity, and profitability of the most complex risks underwritten and presents reports to senior management.
  • Markets products and services through the brokerage community and makes field visits.
  • Develops and maintains broker relationships, especially with key customers in the assigned territory, to ensure positive and profitable outcomes on high-risk business.
  • Keeps current on provincial/federal issues, regulations, industry activity, and trends. Represents the company in industry trade groups and shares knowledge with others.
  • Mentors and guides less experienced underwriters and assists in underwriting training development.
  • Leads special underwriting projects and presentations.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

  • Expertise in technical and product-specific underwriting principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills for interaction with internal and external partners.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Ability to navigate ambiguous situations and resolve complex business problems creatively.
  • Proactive with a long-term perspective on business goals and objectives.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and related software.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience; professional designations preferred.
  • Typically, at least ten years of senior underwriting experience with a proven results track record.
