Manitoba Education and Early Childhood Learning is seeking a Curriculum and Assessment Consultant (Regular/Full Time) to focus on the Technology Education program, Human Ecology and/or Applied Technology (formerly Industrial Arts) curriculum in the Senior Years Technology Education Program Unit of the Learning and Outcomes Branch. Improving educational outcomes, supporting students and families and preparing Manitoba’s children for the careers and challenges of the future is a key department objective towards Growing Our Economy. The Manitoba Government has a comprehensive benefit package which includes extended health care, health spending account, dental care, vision care, long term disability insurance, group life insurance, maternity/paternity leave, family related leave, and a defined pension plan (some pension plans allow for portability between the Civil Service Superannuation Board and employers).

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Extensive experience teaching/coordinating Technology Education programs (Technical-Vocational, Applied Technology (formerly Industrial Arts), Human Ecology, Applied Commerce Education) in Kindergarten to Grade 12 education, within Manitoba schools or other Canadian jurisdictions.
  • Experience leading diverse work groups and project teams.
  • Ability to build relationships, foster collaboration, and develop partnerships among various educational stakeholders.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to act with diplomacy and tact.
  • Excellent oral communication skills.
  • Excellent written communication skills with ability to create and edit a variety of documents with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Effective organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively under pressure.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to make recommendations to inform sound decisions.

Desired:

  • Leadership experience with the development and implementation of programming in a Kindergarten to Grade 12 school setting.
  • Experience with the implementation of STEAM programing in a Kindergarten to Grade 12 school setting.
  • Knowledge of Workplace Safety and Health policies and procedures.
  • Extensive experience coordinating High School Apprenticeship and Work Education programs within Manitoba schools or other Canadian jurisdictions.
  • Knowledge of school facility construction and renovation, including mechanical and architectural standards and interpretation of construction drawings.

Duties:

Reporting to the Coordinator of the Senior Years Technology Education Program Unit, these positions lead work focused on Technology Education programming (Technical-Vocational, Industrial Arts, Human Ecology, STEAM, Applied Commerce Education), the High School Apprenticeship Program and increasing STEAM programming in Manitoba’s K to 12 Education System.

  • Prepare and review curriculum and support materials that reflect department priorities and current research to prepare students for the careers and challenges of the future.
  • Lead and/or participate in the cyclic refinement of curricula and communicate adjustments to the field.
  • Provide coordination, leadership and guidance to teams of teachers contributing to the development/renewal of curriculum documents or related implementation and support documents.
  • Provide systems level support for the implementation of career development initiatives.
  • As directed, manage, and/or provide input on new school facility planning.
  • As directed, represent the department by working with stakeholders and partners on projects and matters that are within the mandate of the department, division and branch.
  • Coordinate and/or provide regular oversite of grant implementation and develop and maintain funding agreements and provide support to grant recipients.
  • Maintain excellent working relationships with stakeholders including pre-Kindergarten and post-secondary partners.
  • As directed, represent the branch when collaborating and consulting with other branches of Manitoba Education and Early Childhood Learning as well as with other departments and organizations.
  • Prepare Ministerial correspondence, briefing notes, letters, and responses to the field.
