• Identify sourcing opportunities, supply chain risks and commercial considerations.
• Assess supplier capabilities, market competitiveness and relationship opportunities.
• Consolidate findings into a comprehensive steel profile with spend, demand, risk and opportunities.
• Develop recommendations on establishing a dedicated steel category, including scope and resource needs.
• Provide foundational analysis to determine the value and strategic benefit of a steel category.

Overview

The company is seeking a steel industry subject matter expert to support the development of a long-term steel category strategy. The resource will provide expertise on steel manufacturing, suppliers, pricing mechanisms, market indices, and supply chain dynamics to help the company better understand its steel-related spend and procurement opportunities. The assignment will involve market research, supplier and industry analysis, validation of strategic recommendations, and development of executive-level presentations and supporting materials. This is a six-month engagement focused on determining whether steel should become a strategic category within the company’s procurement portfolio.

What you will be doing

• Gathering and analyzing internal steel spend, demand, specifications, and usage data across the company
• Engaging with key stakeholders across all functions at the company, including Generation, Transmission, Distribution, Capital Projects, Supply Chain, Engineering, Operations, and Finance, to understand current and future steel requirements.
• Mapping the steel supply market, including key producers, distributors, fabricators, suppliers, and market dynamics.
• Identifying sourcing opportunities, supply chain risks, and commercial considerations.
• Assessing supplier capabilities, market competitiveness, and relationship opportunities.
• Consolidating findings into a comprehensive steel profile, including spend, demand, supply market, risk, and opportunity assessments.
• Developing recommendations on whether a dedicated steel category should be established, including potential category scope, strategy, and resource requirements.
• This work will provide the foundational analysis needed to determine whether a dedicated steel category would deliver sufficient value and strategic benefit to the organization.

What you must have

• Experience with steel industry, manufacturing.
• Demonstrated ability to engage and build relationships with stakeholders across multiple business functions and levels of an organization.
• Advanced proficiency in developing clear, concise, and visually compelling presentations for leadership and executive audiences. Presentations, category profile brochure style
• Bachelor’s degree in a business-related field such as Supply Chain, Business, Economics, Finance, or equivalent
• Master’s Degree or equivalent in Business Management, Operations, or Engineering, preferred
• Certificate or additional education in Project Management, Change Management, Facilitation or Communication, an asset
• Advanced MS Office skills (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
• Advanced English skills for professional environment, written and spoken

Salary/Rate Range: $73.00 -$90.00 per hour

Term: 6-monthcontract; most likely to extend
