What you’ll be doing
Reporting to the Senior Director Regulatory Governance and Controls Oversight, the Consultant Regulatory Governance and Controls Oversight (‘Consultant’) is executing on a 2nd Line of Defense function responsible for developing programs and methods that ensure compliance to policy and regulatory credit risk requirements for RESL and other retail products. This includes providing effective challenge to 1st Line of Defense processes and activities. The Consultant will execute on analysis and deliverables supporting regulatory attestation processes, regulatory outreaches and communication, and risk and controls advisory. The Consultant will conduct controls review to ensure an appropriate control environment to support applicable regulatory requirements and associated risks. The Consultant support strategic business unit initiatives to ensure compliance with real estate secured lending and unsecured lending regulatory requirements. The Consultant will support the Senior Director in initiative reporting and progress tracking. The Consultant is a key contributor to the risk controls and oversight function for RESL, along with the other retail products, to ensure that CIBC operates within its risk appetite as a 2nd Line of Defense and to ensure proper strategic focus on regulatory matters.

How you’ll succeed
Promote a strong risk culture – You will promote and develop heightened awareness of the importance of a strong risk and controls environment, with proactive identification of risks and trends to design business processes for success. You will fulfill the role of CIBC’s 2nd line of defence through effectively challenging the business line’s controls. You will provide guidance in the determination of materiality of controls deficiencies and related action plans.
Relationship building – You have the ability to effectively interact and build relationships internal and external to CIBC. When issues are identified, you effectively can oversee and monitor the development of right-sized solutions across business units.
Communication and interpersonal skills – Exhibit strong verbal and written communication skills. Have the ability to communicate effectively with internal and external teams and different lines of business regarding the design and effectiveness of their controls.
Delivery mindset – You execute and deliver on your mandate with key focus on timeliness and quality. You understand how you can support and deliver on a team’s strategic direction and evolve processes, procedures, tools and training to enable the team to effectively deliver on Risk Analytics and Credit Decision 2nd Line of Defense oversight mandate.
Who you are
You can demonstrate experience in leading regulatory examinations communications, audits, compliance reviews or/and process efficiency reviews for a minimum 2 years.
You can demonstrate experience in establishing a strong controls environment, including designing and assessing the effectiveness controls for a minimum 2 years.
You understand retail financial products origination and servicing journeys, and have an understanding of the regulatory environment applicable to financial institutions. It’s an asset if you have experience with applications such as Class and Mortgage.
You have sound professional judgment and can handle handling complex and urgent matters.
You have a University Degree/ College Diploma or equivalent work experience with a minimum of 5 years’ experience within the compliance or lending industry.
