The Trust is rated outstanding by the Care Quality Commission for medical care and hyper-acute services. It is a key centre for cardiac, stroke, and vascular services, providing both specialist teaching hospital services and maintaining the friendly environment typical of District General Hospitals. The thoracic medicine department features a dedicated five-bed cystic fibrosis unit, one of the largest in the UK, and an eight-bed medical acute dependency unit with non-invasive ventilation capabilities.

The successful candidate will undertake various duties, including:

  1. Inpatient care as part of the respiratory team, managing approximately 50 inpatients alongside seven colleagues.
  2. Rotating on and off the wards, including ward blocks and HDU shifts, with daily consultant input, in-reach into the medical assessment unit and emergency department, and outpatient consultations.
  3. Providing telephone advice to GPs for admission avoidance.
  4. Supervising care on the Medical High Dependency Unit (1 week in 7).
  5. Supporting bronchoscopy and pleural procedures.
  6. On-call commitments covering the general medical weekday rota (1pm-9pm, non-resident overnight) on a 1 in 20 basis, and respiratory weekend days (8am-5pm) on a 1 in 8 basis.
  7. Teaching junior doctors, nurses, including specialist nurses, and medical students.

The Trust is located in a scenic suburb on the outskirts of London, with excellent access to international airports and reputable schools, both public and private.
