Job summary

EY in Canada is seeking a Consultant or Manager in Financial Restructuring to help clients optimize capital options, liquidity and strategic outcomes. You will engage in distressed assets, restructurings, and cash management, collaborating with clients, bankers and lawyers to deliver targeted recommendations.

You will lead engagements, mentor juniors, and contribute to business development while meeting high professional standards in a bilingual, CPA-driven environment.

Qualifications

  • CPA designation required in Canada.
  • Strong financial analysis and modelling skills.
  • Experience in a professional services firm or business environment.
  • Bilingual in French and English required.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to report writing, complex valuation analyses, and detailed financial modelling.
  • Collaborate with client stakeholders, investment bankers, and legal counsel to gather information, communicate findings, and provide strategic recommendations.
  • Support acquisitions, divestitures, mergers, and other transaction-related engagements.
  • Conduct and synthesise research to support financial modelling, industry analysis, negotiation strategies, and other business initiatives.
  • Prepare high-quality reports, presentations, and client deliverables and communicate key insights to stakeholders.
  • Present findings and recommendations clearly to clients and internal audiences.
  • Demonstrate strong project management and organizational skills with multiple priorities and tight deadlines.
  • Manager: provide leadership, coaching, and mentorship to junior team members and assist in planning and execution of engagements.

Your key responsibilities

As a Consultant or Manager, you will be part of the restructuring team helping our clients evaluate capital options, capture greater transaction value and achieve strategic objectives - whether they are buying or selling a distressed asset, restructuring a business, dealing with underperformance or looking to improve cash management.

  • Manager:
    • Provide effective leadership, coaching, and mentorship to junior team members; fostering their professional growth and development.
    • Assist in the planning and execution of engagements including managing specific elements of larger projects and providing overall management for smaller engagements.
To qualify for the role you must have
  • Consultant:
    • two to four years of experience in a professional services firm or other business environment.
  • Manager:
    • minimum of 4 years of experience in a professional services firm or other business environment
  • Designated Canadian CPA.
  • This role involves interaction with clients operating nationally and globally. Bilingualism in both French and English is therefore a requirement of this role.
  • Demonstrated strengths in problem-solving, critical thinking, situational analysis, negotiation, and strategic decision-making.
  • Strong technical expertise in financial analysis, with the ability to evaluate complex business and transaction scenarios.
  • Financial modelling capabilities, including the development of integrated financial models and short-term cash flow forecasts.
  • Comprehensive understanding of financial statement analysis and the key drivers of business performance and value.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain professional relationships, with a strong interest in business development and expanding professional networks.
  • Collaborative team player who actively contributes to business development initiatives and market-facing activities alongside colleagues and senior leadership.
Ideally, you’ll also have
  • Willing to enroll in the CIRP Qualification Program.
  • Willing to sit for the oral board examination to qualify as a Licensed Insolvency Trustee.
  • Embrace the uncertainty and often fluid nature of the work and will have a "roll up the sleeves" attitude and a high level of creative energy and enthusiasm.
  • Ability to work either autonomously or with a team on a number of simultaneous projects.
