Job description

We've been assigned by one of the best performing NHS Trusts in the UK to help them recruit a Consultant in Neurology on either a Substantive or a 12-month NHS Fixed Term basis.

Our client's Department of Neurology at LNWH currently has a diverse team of 12 Consultant Neurologists across three hospital sites, with 5 based at one of the main sites. They also have two specialist nurses working across the sites, 2 clinical fellows based at Northwick Park, and a comprehensive Neurophysiology service at Central Middlesex Hospital, including three full-time physiologists and a supervising Neurophysiology Consultant.

The Medical Directorate considers Neurology services to be a core need both inpatient and outpatient within the local communities. The post will be crucial in driving forward the development of Neurology services, including the development of Nurse Specialist positions and working with the local Primary Care Trust to enhance access and quality of the service. All consultant staff are allocated secretarial support, office space, and IT facilities.

The appointee will be expected to undertake various duties, including:

  1. General outpatient clinics
  2. Liaison work on the wards
  3. Advice and guidance, triaging referrals from the primary sector
  4. Supervising clinical fellows and nurse specialists

Approximately 1500 new outpatients are seen each year, with a strong local demand for increased access to neurological opinions. The role involves participation in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education, collaborating with other physicians in the Trust, and ensuring a comprehensive outpatient and ward referral service. The appointee will also lead departmental efforts in clinical audit and effectiveness.

This position offers a fantastic opportunity based in London at one of the UK's largest trusts, with proximity to two international airports and excellent private and public schools.

Additional information includes:

  • Excellent leadership within the team
  • 10 PA's per week (can be increased if necessary)
  • Must have GMC Registration
  • Outstanding nearby schools
  • Excellent location in one of Europe's biggest cities
