Job description

We have been assigned by one of the UK's more prestigious NHS Trusts to help them recruit a Consultant in Gastroenterology on either a Substantive or NHS Fixed Term basis for 12 months to join their successful Gastroenterology department.

About the Department

The Academic Department of Medical and Surgical Gastroenterology was established in July 1999, focusing on team collaboration, communication, and promoting joint research, audits, and academic activities. The department features offices adjacent to the endoscopy unit, equipped with meeting facilities, PowerPoint projection, and live video links to procedure rooms.

The department conducts joint journal clubs, academic meetings, radiology conferences, and multidisciplinary clinical meetings. The gastroenterology wards are adjacent, enabling joint ward rounds.

Endoscopy Services

The Endoscopy Unit, next to the Day Stay Unit, has three procedure rooms with modern video endoscopy equipment. Procedures include endoscopic ultrasound, ERCP, stenting, dilatation, polypectomy, argon beam photocoagulation, PEG, and PEJ feeding. Annually, approximately 3,700 upper GI endoscopies, 2,300 colonoscopies, 450 flexible sigmoidoscopies, 200 ERCPs, and 100 EUS procedures are performed. The center is recognized as a European Training Centre for endoscopy and is JAG accredited for bowel cancer screening. Medical gastroenterology clinics see over 2,500 new patients annually, with specialist clinics for inflammatory bowel disease, liver disease, hepatobiliary disease, nutrition, and neurogastroenterology.
