Job description

We have been assigned by one of the UK's more prestigious NHS Trusts to help them recruit a Consultant in Acute Medicine on either a Substantive or NHS Fixed Term basis for 12 months to join their successful Medicine department.

Our client is one of the largest integrated care Trusts in the country, bringing together hospital and community services, serving 9,000 staff, including 1,300 doctors and 4,000 nurses. They serve a diverse population of approximately 850,000 with a budget of over £640 million. The Trust is a Major Acute Hospital with a busy medical take, an established reputation for handling a wide range of medical conditions with high acuity. Recognizing the vital role of Acute Medicine, the Trust has made substantial investments to develop three Acute Medical Unit wards (on a phased approach), with patients remaining under the care of the acute team throughout their stay. The department also runs the award-winning Ambulatory Emergency Care Unit and the well-established Medical High Dependency Unit.

The successful appointee will join a department comprising six acute medicine consultants, fourteen acute/specialty consultants, and thirty-three specialty medical consultants, responsible for providing acute and general internal medicine services. Responsibilities include contributing pro rata to the Acute Medicine Rota, which will evolve with service reconfiguration. The department handles approximately 90 to 120 referrals per day, with about one-third streamed via the Same Day Emergency Care pathways in the Ambulatory Care Units. Staffing levels for the take, Ambulatory Care, AMU wards, and HDU are aligned with RCP recommended staffing ratios, supported by teaching and management duties, alongside clinical lists, audit, and governance duties.

Our client is based in a beautiful suburb on the outskirts of London, close to major international airports and reputable public and private schools.
