Job Description - Consultant (home based) - Atom Trap Trace Analysis (ATTA) (TAL-NAPC20250410-001)

Organization

The Department of Nuclear Sciences and Applications implements the IAEA's Major Programme 2, "Nuclear Techniques for Development and Environmental Protection". This programme supports activities in food and agriculture, human health, water resources, environment, and radiation technologies, with laboratories in Seibersdorf, Monaco, and Vienna.

Main Purpose

The consultant will provide technical expertise to the NAPC Isotope Hydrology Laboratory in designing the IAEA Atom Trap Trace Analysis (ATTA) system suitable for the scientific needs of the Section and the laboratory's technical capacity for radio-krypton analysis.

Functions / Key Results Expected
  1. Collaborate with scientific and technical staff to determine the requirements for an IAEA ATTA system.
  2. Offer technical advice for designing an ATTA system specifically for Krypton-81 and Krypton-85 isotopic analysis.
  3. Develop a list of materials and parts, incorporating latest advancements, to ensure the system meets scientific and operational needs.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Knowledge of Isotope Hydrology.
  • Data management skills are an asset.
Qualifications and Experience
  • PhD in physics or a related field.
  • At least 3-5 years of experience in academic or analytical laboratories.
  • Knowledge of Atom Trap Trace Analysis and Kr-81 analysis is essential.
  • Fluent in English; knowledge of other IAEA official languages is an asset.
Remuneration

The consultancy offers a daily fee up to €300, with additional provisions for travel, health coverage, and pension, depending on the assignment specifics.
