What You'll Be Doing

As a Consultant, Governance & Controls, you'll join Legal's Transformation and Operational Excellence team to support governance activities across Legal. In this role, you'll contribute to the oversight of key processes by supporting the management of controls that help mitigate operational risk and potential losses. You'll help strengthen CIBC's control framework by promoting compliance with regulatory, legislative, and operational requirements, while supporting the timely and effective remediation of identified deficiencies. You'll also work closely with partners across the business to enhance processes, improve governance practices, and support Legal-wide initiatives.

At CIBC we enable the work environment most optimal for you to thrive in your role. You'll have the flexibility to manage your work activities within a hybrid work arrangement where you'll spend 1-3 days per week on-site, while other days will be remote.

How You'll Succeed
  • Governance & risk management - Support the execution of governance activities to help ensure CIBC procedures and policies are followed, reducing risk exposure and potential financial loss. Conduct planning, testing, deficiency management, and control activities in support of Legal teams. Partner with department heads and management teams to help ensure effective business controls are in place and aligned with CIBC operating requirements, including the CIBC Control Framework, Information Security, Corporate Mandatory Training and Testing (CMTT), and enterprise initiatives. Interpret policies, procedures, and standards in both routine and non-routine situations, and identify opportunities for continuous improvement to strengthen governance practices.
  • Record management & reporting - Help maintain an effective and documented internal control structure supported by clear policies and procedures. Analyze issues and concerns to identify root causes and support resolution through the review of key controls reporting. Conduct testing and review of the Financial Process Controls (FPC), Operational Process Controls (OPC), and Risk and Control Matrices (RCM) results to ensure CIBC's control methodologies are followed. Respond to inquiries and requests for clarification from Global Operations Risk Management, Compliance, and internal and external auditors to support quarterly certifications. Document and maintain processes related to assigned activities, and take proactive steps to address anticipated issues.
  • Relationship management - Build strong working relationships with stakeholders across CIBC's control framework, including Global Operations Risk Management, Compliance, testers, process owners, accountable officers, and internal and external auditors. Provide advice and support on operational and process-related matters by delivering analysis and recommendations that support both new and existing initiatives. Act as a liaison between enterprise-wide policies and initiatives related to your area of specialization and the Legal team, helping to promote alignment, communication, and collaboration.
Who You Are
  • You can demonstrate experience in analysis, reporting, problem solving, and communication, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple deadlines and deliverables.
  • You can demonstrate experience in Microsoft Office applications, including advanced Excel and Power BI. It's an asset if you have experience with governance, risk, and compliance tools such as eGRC and Archer.
  • You give meaning to data. You enjoy investigating complex problems and making sense of information. You communicate detailed information in a clear and meaningful way.
  • Your influence makes a difference. You know that relationships and networks are essential to success. You inspire outcomes by sharing your expertise.
  • You know that details matter. You notice things that others don't. Your critical thinking skills help to inform your decision making.
  • Values matter to you. You bring your real self to work, and you live our values - trust, teamwork, and accountability.
