What You’ll Be Doing
Reporting to the Director of Enterprise Data Governance, you will play a critical role in supporting and overseeing data governance adherence across the organization. Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the execution and validation of enterprise data governance controls, with a focus on metadata management, and data quality management in alignment with control testing procedures, as well as activities supporting identification and oversight of data themed deficiencies and mitigation progress. You will collaborate with business units and stakeholders to ensure consistent and effective implementation of data governance practices and support the continuous improvement of the Enterprise Data Governance program.
At CIBC we enable the work environment most optimal for you to thrive in your role you’ll have the flexibility to manage your work activities within a hybrid work arrangement where you’ll spend 1-3 days per week on-site, while other days will be remote.
How You’ll Succeed
- Champion Data Governance Adherence- Apply your expertise in data governance frameworks, policies, and standards to support and effectively challenge data governance activities across the enterprise. Encourage consistent application of data governance practices and help drive alignment with enterprise objectives and evolving regulatory requirements. Contribute to the ongoing evaluation and enhancement of data governance processes in collaboration with business units.
- Build and Promote Strong Metadata Management Practices- Promote and implement best practices for the creation, documentation, and ongoing maintenance of metadata—including data dictionaries and business glossaries—to support enterprise data discovery and understanding. Collaborate with data governance teams across the organization to ensure metadata management activities consistently align with CIBC’s enterprise standards and evolving industry requirements. Assess and enhance the quality, completeness, and accessibility of metadata resources by reviewing practices, identifying improvement opportunities, and providing expert guidance on the management of business, technical, and operational metadata as well as data lineage.
- Drive Consistency and Excellence in Data Quality Management- Advocate for and implement robust data quality management practices, ensuring proactive monitoring, measurement, and remediation of data quality issues in alignment with CIBC’s enterprise standards and key data quality dimensions. Support the development, oversight, and automation of data quality strategies and controls across business lines, enabling consistent evaluation and reporting of data quality metrics and compliance. Collaborate with data governance teams to drive continuous improvement in data quality management, promote root cause analysis and remediation, and ensure alignment with evolving business and regulatory requirements.
- Support Control Testing and Stakeholder Collaboration - Plan and conduct control testing of data governance practices across the organization to ensure alignment with enterprise policies and standards. Assess and report on the effectiveness of governance controls implemented, leveraging oversight tools to provide clear, actionable insights. Collaborate with internal teams and stakeholders to communicate findings, share best practices, and drive ongoing improvements in data governance.
- Facilitate Data theme Deficiency Oversight and Remediation- Support the identification and tracking of data-themed deficiencies across the organization. Partner with business units to monitor mitigation progress and promote timely remediation. Help ensure that deficiency oversight and remediation activities are aligned with enterprise standards and support continuous improvement.
Who You Are
- You have 3-5 years of experience in data governance, metadata management, data quality management, control testing, risk management and compliance, with a strong risk mindset. Experience supporting data governance programs across the enterprise is highly valued. You demonstrate proficiency with data repositories and analytical tools, such as Excel, SharePoint, and Purview, and familiarity with SQL, Tableau, Power BI, or similar platforms is considered an asset. You have a proven ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels and can convey complex concepts in a clear and professional manner. You are adept at project management, change management, and contributing to ongoing continuous improvement initiatives.
- You give meaning to data. You possess a strong understanding of data governance frameworks, data management best practices, and regulatory requirements.
- You hold a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Information Management, Data Management, Business Administration) or equivalent experience.
