Job summary

CIBC is seeking a Consultant, Back End Developer- Scala to lead design, development and integration of cross‑functional systems. You will work on backend services in Azure, influence multi-year tech roadmaps, and mentor developers in a hybrid on-site/remote setup.

You should have 5–7 years of hands-on Cloud (Azure) and ETL experience with Python/Scala, Databases, and tools like GitHub, Azure DevOps and Autosys. The role is based in Toronto with on-site and hybrid work options.

Qualifications

• 5–7 years hands-on development experience in Cloud (Azure), ETL (DataBricks, ADF, ADLS), Python/Scala, and Databases (Oracle, SQL Server, Azure SQL MI).
• Experience migrating infrastructure to the latest Azure cloud and related tooling such as GitHub, Azure DevOps, and Autosys.
• 5–7 years of proven capability leading design, development and integration across backend systems.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop the application’s technical infrastructure using databases, programming languages, utilities and testing approaches.
• Lead the design and development of cost-effective, innovative solutions and multi-year technology roadmaps.
• Act as development team lead; run code reviews and mentor intermediate and senior developers to meet goals.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll be joining CIBC’s Core Banking and Payments Technology. As a Consultant, Back End Developer- Scala you’ll lead the technical design, development and integration of cross-functional, multi-platform application systems.

At CIBC we enable the work environment most optimal for you to thrive in your role. To successfully perform the work, you’ll be on-site full-time. You’ll have the flexibility to manage your work activities within a hybrid work arrangement where you’ll spend 1-3 days per week on-site, while other days will be remote.

How you’ll succeed

• Design and Development- Perform and coordinate complicated application programming activities. Design the application’s technical infrastructure using specific databases, programming languages, utilities, and testing approaches.Lead the design and development of cost-effective and innovative solutions.
• Strategic Planning- Develop multi-year technology roadmaps that align with the bank’s vision, strategy, and business goals. Lead multiple complicated projects involving backend systems, new technology, and the enhancement of existing applications.
• Leadership Skills- Act as the development team lead and run code-review sessions with the wider team to ensure the project is on track to meet goals. Support and mentor intermediate and senior developers by sharing knowledge, collaborating and problem solving.

Who you are

• You can demonstrate 5-7 years experience: In hands-on development on Cloud (Azure), ETL (DataBricks, ADF, ADLS, etc.), Python/Scala, Databases (Oracle, SQL Server, Azure SQL MI), and Tools (GitHub, Azure DevOps, Autosys). Have experienced migrating infrastructure to latest currency (Infrastructure upgrades) including migration to Azure Cloud.
