About the Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Construction Site Superintendent to oversee the day-to-day delivery of construction projects throughout the Halifax Regional Municipality. This hands-on leadership role is responsible for coordinating trades, maintaining schedules, monitoring quality and ensuring all work is completed safely and efficiently.
The ideal candidate is a confident site leader with strong construction knowledge, excellent organizational skills and a proven ability to keep projects and people moving forward.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage daily construction activities and overall site operations.
- Coordinate subcontractors, trades, suppliers, deliveries and equipment.
- Review project plans, specifications, schedules and scopes of work.
- Monitor project progress and proactively address delays or site challenges.
- Conduct regular site inspections to ensure workmanship meets project standards.
- Enforce occupational health and safety requirements and company procedures.
- Lead site orientations, toolbox talks and safety meetings.
- Maintain accurate daily logs, progress reports and site documentation.
- Coordinate inspections and work with consultants, engineers and authorities.
- Identify deficiencies and ensure corrective work is completed promptly.
- Monitor materials, labour requirements and site productivity.
- Communicate project updates, risks and changes to the Project Manager.
- Support commissioning, closeout and turnover activities.
- Maintain a professional, organized and respectful worksite.
Qualifications
- At least five years of construction-site experience, including experience in a supervisory or superintendent role.
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, sequencing, drawings and specifications.
- Demonstrated experience coordinating multiple trades and subcontractors.
- Knowledge of Nova Scotia occupational health and safety requirements and applicable building codes.
- Strong leadership, communication and conflict-resolution skills.
- Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Comfortable using email, scheduling tools and construction-management software.
- Valid driver’s licence and reliable transportation.
- First Aid, WHMIS and safety certifications are considered assets.
- Red Seal certification, technical training or construction-management education is an asset.
