Ledcor Building Construction in Vancouver, BC seeks a Construction Safety Officer to lead field safety and oversee Health, Safety, and Environmental programs on industrial projects.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years health and safety experience in construction.
  • Possession of CSO or NCSO designation is required.
  • CRSP or equivalent HS&E designation is an asset.
  • OFA Level 3 is required.
  • Strong computer skills: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
  • Knowledge of local BC health and safety acts and regs.
  • Understanding HS&E functions like hygiene, ergonomics, confined space, investigations.
  • Knowledge of commercial construction practices and equipment.
  • Ability to support site teams and safety coordinators to meet goals.
  • Proven leadership and relationship-building skills.

Responsibilities

  • Identifies corrective actions and educates supervisors, sub-contractors, and site personnel.
  • Supports incident investigations with project staff and contractors.

  • Develops and implements project-specific safety plans and safe work procedures.
  • Provides interpretation of local regulations related to public and site safety.

Job description

As the Construction Safety Officer, you will be responsible for providing field leadership and overseeing the implementation of Health, Safety, and Environmental programs. Your primary duty will be to assist project teams with daily operations by influencing, developing, and implementing safety plans that align with the corporate goal of zero incidents. We are seeking an accredited safety professional with experience in the commercial construction industry, particularly in high-rise towers and institutional projects. Responsibilities:
  • Works under the day-to-day direction of the project superintendent to verify the project is properly and effectively implementing Ledcor’s Health, Safety and Environmental Protection standards
  • Conducting and documenting inspections to verify compliance with corporate policies and health and safety regulations hazards
  • Identifies corrective action to be taken and assists in resolving any issues of non-compliance; and provides education to supervisors, sub-contractors, and project site personnel in matters of health and safety
  • Participates and supports project staff and contractors in conducting effective incident investigations
  • Ensures all required HS&E documentation (subcontractor documentation, health and safety inspections, audits, daily hazard assessments, toolbox talks and safe work procedures and meeting minutes) are effectively organized and copies are shared with the appropriate groups
  • Reviews incident reports, monthly statistics, inspection reports and can identify undesirable trends and provide appropriate recommendations
  • Works with the project team on the development/implementation of project specific safety plans, job hazard assessments and safe work procedures
  • Maintains a working knowledge of, and provides consultative advice to project site personnel on, the interpretation of local and provincial regulations as they relate to both public and worksite safety
Requirements:
  • Must have a minimum of3 years relevant health and safety experience
  • Possession of BC Construction Safety Officer (CSO) or National Construction Safety Officer designation (NCSO)
  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or other professional HS&E designation is an asset
  • OFA Level 3 is required
  • Strong computer skills, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Thorough knowledge of local government health and safety acts, policies, regulations, codes and practices
  • Working level of understanding of basic HS&E functions, such as, Occupational Hygiene, Ergonomics, Confined Space and Incident investigations
  • Strong knowledge of commercial construction practices, techniques, and equipment
  • Ability to support operational staff and project safety coordinators to set, articulate and achieve challenging goals
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to build relationships and motivate and operational and HS&E teams
Work Conditions:
  • You will be required to work on a site with uneven grounds and heights, climb ladders/stairs, and stand for extended periods of times
Compensation

Compensation $36.05 - $41.51 per hour This is the applicable wage range for this position. Individuals will be assigned a base wage within this range based on trade certification and/or apprenticeship level, industry experience, and work location. Remote, site-based positions may be eligible for additional incentives including but not limited to travel and accommodation allowances.
