Role: Construction Officer - Site Safety / Site Safety Coordination

Location of Services: Vernon, BC

Work Assignment Overview: Act as Site Safety Coordinator for transmission line upgrade project near Kamloops BC involving multiple contractors and BC Hydro resources.
Hours per day: 10, Monday - Friday
Contract Duration: 12 months
Max INC Rate: $73.44
Max T4 Rate: $60.69

General Description
  • The Construction Officer Level 3 acts as construction site coordinator and inspector on multiple or large civil, electrical, and/or mechanical projects to ensure the work, materials, progress, and cost meet BC Hydro expectations.
Experience and Role Accountabilities
  • A minimum of seven (7) years of construction experience or equivalent.
  • Inspect construction work on substations, transmission lines, and hydroelectric equipment using excellent inspection skills and understanding of construction methods to meet deadlines and safety codes.
  • Ensure site safety by prioritizing safe work execution and performing Safe Work Observations, utilizing knowledge of safety standards and regulations to enhance BC Hydro’s safety performance.
  • Coordinate site testing, surveying, and estimating activities with a good understanding of engineering drawings to facilitate timely project progression. Conditions may include adverse weather, working at heights, or underground.
  • Support contract and work order administration by collaborating with contractors and BC Hydro internal teams to ensure work, materials, progress, and costs meet expectations.
  • Provide expert advice on complex technical issues to support future capability development at BC Hydro.
  • Respond to internal and third-party inquiries professionally, representing BC Hydro on-site, as assigned.
Education and Skills
  • Diploma in Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Technology or relevant trades, apprenticeship courses, or equivalent.
  • Training in contract law.
  • Excellent knowledge of safety standards such as OSH Standards and WorkSafe Regulations.
  • Advanced English skills for professional communication, both written and spoken.

  • Trade certification.

  • Proficiency in MS Office suite, including PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Knowledge of WorkSafe Prime contractor and Multi-Employer Workspace regulations.
  • Good presentation skills for site orientation of new workers.
Nice to Have:
  • Intermediate First Aid Certification.
  • Previous transmission line construction experience.
