Job Description

We are currently seeking a qualified Construction Superintendent to join our team, based out of Leroy, SK. The Construction Superintendent will be responsible for managing the 24-7 coordination of mining contractors for the field execution of the work within shafts and underground development. Ensuring the contractors and their construction execution work are properly planned and ready in accordance with engineering drawings, and that the work complies with site requirements, focusing on safety, risk, and quality. Drive field execution decisions with contractors to optimize the schedule and construction delivery. This role offers the opportunity to work on the Hatch Bantrel Joint Venture (HBJV) to execute engineering and construction on the BHP Jansen Potash Mine Project in Saskatchewan. It is a full-time, permanent position and a champion of diversity and inclusion.

Work Schedule: 15 / 13, 12 hr. shifts, 5 pm – 5 am

Duties & Responsibilities :
  • Stop construction and supporting activities in case of safety or quality concerns, and resolve or escalate as appropriate.
  • Make day-to-day decisions governing construction progress, resolving competing priorities and resource allocation.
  • Provide constructability input to future work plans and designs as requested.
  • Solve issues alongside Field Engineers and HSE Advisors.
  • Provide coverage for the Mining General Superintendents and their decisions.
  • Supervise and oversee activities from the Mining General Superintendent, Mill Building Construction Manager, and General Superintendent.
  • Potentially supervise a team of field supervisors or other IPT SMEs in a 24-7 capacity.
  • Coordinate team members across disciplines and functions.
  • Ensure implementation of HSE processes, plans, and procedures, aligning with project goals.
  • Participate in the field leadership program.
  • Supervise and coordinate construction operations, dealing directly with contractors.
  • Review contractor plans and permits, and ensure adherence to schedules and budgets.
  • Support technical queries and quality issues, manage field changes, and coordinate contract change orders.
  • Report progress and challenges to the Mining General Superintendent.
  • Liaise with various project teams and prepare reports and forecasts.
  • Contribute to constructability reviews and participate in risk management as a risk or control owner.
  • Promote a culture of inclusion and diversity among contractors.
  • Ensure compliance with OH&S and Mines regulations.
  • Work closely with other superintendents and backfill for them as needed.
  • Manage daily activities to align with broader project objectives, deadlines, and time management.
Qualifications
  • Operations/trade background or bachelor’s degree in engineering, with relevant experience in shaft or mining construction or operations.
  • Mechanical/Structural expertise.
  • Minimum 7 years of relevant experience in shaft or mining-heavy industrial construction, preferably in Potash.
  • Ability to work flexibly within the superintendent team, with a basic understanding of disciplines like structural, mechanical, piping, electrical, and instrumentation.
  • Understanding of work face planning, quality management systems, and construction operations.
  • Knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations, WCB provisions, and labor relations.
  • Strong leadership, communication skills, and ability to build high-performance relationships.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and attention to detail.
  • Ability to learn quickly, troubleshoot, analyze, and solve problems, including root cause analysis.
  • Flexibility for roster rotation to accommodate a 24-7 schedule.
