Role description:

Under the supervision of the Team Leader, the Field Inspector will oversee day-to-day site activity and provide detailed daily observations and record-keeping services for the installation of all development-related works for water/wastewater linear and facility projects in Southern Ontario.

These activities may include (but are not limited to) earthworks, underground servicing, secondary road works, lot grading conformance, and/or municipal engineering works including liner and vertical infrastructure. This role requires strong public relations skills and the ability to accurately communicate project-related information to clients, contractors, municipal staff, or any other project stakeholder as required.

Role responsibilities:
  • Monitor and document construction site activities and discussions; prepare detailed daily site inspection/progress reports and collect digital photo records of site activity.
  • Interpret construction drawings and specifications and inspect to ensure compliance with the design; advise the contractor and Team Lead immediately of any observed deviation from the approved design drawings or any safety or environmental issues.
  • Inspect the materials, methods, and construction processes of structures, buildings, mechanical and electrical installations, water and wastewater facilities, sewers, watermains, utilities, and roads; obtain and/or verify detailed servicing as-built information.
  • Review contractor submissions such as shop drawings, RFIs, and CCTV inspections.
  • Conduct detailed erosion and sediment control inspections and preparation of reports.
  • Advise Team Lead of any potential contractor extra work claims or potential cost/time-saving observations.
  • Review and verify contractor’s payment requests and progress claims.
  • Attend pre-construction meetings, site progress meetings, and document, prepare and distribute records of meetings; liaise with homeowners, municipalities, conservation authorities, contractors, and clients as required.
  • Coordinate sub-consultant inspectors and reviews, and contractor and municipal staff to carry out maintenance/assumption inspections and repairs.
  • Conduct day-to-day tasks in accordance with legislated and Company-dictated Environmental, Health and Safety mandates and other Company policies.

The successful candidate will be knowledgeable in the construction of civil components including (but not limited to) earthworks, underground servicing, secondary road works, and lot grading conformance and/or municipal engineering works including liner and vertical infrastructure. They will be able to interpret construction drawings and specifications, have excellent communication, organizational, and time management skills to manage multiple projects. They will have a strong work ethic, motivation, interpersonal and judgment skills, and proficiency in computer systems, software, and typing. Health and Safety training will be provided as required.

Qualifications and experience:

The successful candidate will have:

  • College or University Engineering Diploma, PEO and O.A.C.E.T.T. designation, an asset.
  • Familiarity with Ontario Building Code, OPSS, OH&SA; and standards and regulations relevant to building and construction.

The salary range for this position is $60,000-70,000. The base salary represents Arcadis’ hiring range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as location, skills, experience, and qualification for the role.
